I'd really like to see a bit of a hackjob to have custom mobs. I figure using in-game models won't require a client mod.. what about using code of the squid to make fish? At the same time, having a mob spawning command would be awesome.
well, i guess the actions of the squid can be done. the fish notsomuch. as the client is told to render a fish object as a pickup item and cannot have any AI associated with it. It'l just simply kill everything (in a non-"fun" way). Squid can already be domesticated. just need to somehow shove one into a tank and hope it stays.. What you really want is a way to set entities un-despawnable. e.g. hit a sheep with a specific item (say, a clay ball) and it makes that entity no longer despawn and make it always in world. i for one have no idea how to do it but i'm pitching it out there.
