Question Will canary mod work with bukkit?

Hello all! I just received a book "Learn to Program with Minecraft Plugins", but it was the second edition for canary mod... I don't know canary mod... ): I got started with bukkit, got the bukkit library on eclipse, and now ready to get started. Will canary mod work with bukkit? And is it a whole different programming canary mod plugins than it is to do bukkit plugins? I kinda wanted to do bukkit.

CanaryMod is a server implimentation like Craftbukkit - it was one of the alternative servers created in the First Great Void (when hMod ceased leaving a vaccum making developers scramble to create a new server core), with a dedicated following but very slow and difficult to keep updated as minecraft grew larger. It was a legitimate all out VHS/Betamax war of servermod cores back then, where bukkit emerged as the customer selected standard eventually.
