What happens when 1.9 comes out?!

Will I have to reset my multiplayer server map? Is there a plugin or some way I can update my server? I really don't want to start over, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

The world generation algorithm's different, so it would help to reset the map. I would wait until Minecraft's officially released, though, as then you can be sure that the world generation would not change.

 

As far as I was aware, there is no longer a 1.9 release. The next proper release is the release that'll take us out of beta. Notch/Jeb have mentioned there may be some more pre-releases.

I doubt you'll HAVE to reset your map but you probably won't be able to take advantage of anything new that's been added. New things will only generate in land you've not visited yet and can often create very ugly terrain due to slight changes in the terrain generation. Which I expect WILL happen because I don't think snow is appearing properly at the moment?
