Today i started getting the same error....nothing changed with my plugins since 1.5....

It is random and can very from any amount of players. I saw it happen a few times though when only 1 person was on.

Building or something, I am usually a sleep or off my computer when my server errors.

Yes, Every time I get this error my server crashes.

since 1.7:

my virtual ram keep growing, my ram is always at the top, even essentials ram-freeing tool doesnt seem to clear any memory

i only have 700 mb ram for 14 players (works almost fine) but since 1.7 ram usage is maxed out...

could be an indication to the freezing server-thing

My server has been running smoothly over the last three weeks running the latest craftbukkit version, this morning when I woke up, my server had turned off and crashed. When I rebooted and tried to launch the server, the map file was incredibly messed up and the server was spamming errors. I deleted the World folder and backed it up to the previous day, I also got rid of all my plugins. Doing so reduced the server to only getting errors when booting up, then it would stop. But when I enable monsters, there would be constant entity ID errors with the monsters and animals.
When I run the Minecraft_Server.jar it works fine, it only errors out with CraftBukkit. Hopefully what I have listed below will help.

Well, I don't know how much help this will be, but I figured I"d create an account just to type my story.

I was getting the exact same [SEVERE] Socket warning messages when trying to start up my server. My server was running the Xfinity Norton Antivirus Security Suite. I found an option in the firewall settings to turn off Stealth Blocked Ports. I started up my server immediately and... still had the [SEVERE] Socket warning ...

so in frustration I closed Alt + F4ed the server, ran the .bat file and repeated this several times in quick secession and suddenly I noticed the [SEVERE] warning messages went away..

So i don't know if it just took time for the Norton Security settings to take effect or if I somehow did something by preventing the server from fully booting up.

The server is a dedicated server somewhere in a room with alot of other dedicated servers (I do have full root access to it, though) so I don't know alot, what I know is that is has 6 gigs of RAM available, the server runs with 5GB, the OS is Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS x64 and this is what I get from java -version:

The Bukkit build is #1000 (Congrats, again ), which runs very smooth, the error also appeared before that build.
It's also not very common... Maybe once a day this happens.

Edit.: Oh yes, CPU is (only) 2GhZ. I don't know anything else about it.

 

This crap happens a lot to me. I don't know why at all! People just get disconnected randomly, and often too. I don't know if it's on my end or not either.

My server runs smoothly, with acceptable and harmless CPU and Memory usage.

Could this problem be caused by having only 0.8mbits/s upload speed? Although it should be noted that this happens sometimes with even 1 or 2 players.

 

My guess is it isnt upload speed. I have 20+mbit/s upload and still get this

 

No, it's most likely not the upload. My server has really fast upload. Really fast. Still the problem.

 

I have been told this error is due to hackers sending bad packets or something to do with icmp im not sure but the guy said if i banned him he would mess up my server and it has been crap ever since.

 

EDIT: Server is working again. Don't use Proxys, that was my mistake

The Server worked fine 2 days ago... Then i wanted to play with my friends and boooom, if i join the server, iam only falling. But you can see in the code, there is no overload...

Comments:
As per someone's comment about proxy servers, I should note most clients connect via a DNS route. We attempted bypassing that by simply typing in the machine's IP address directly and that did not resolve the issue.

However, I may have found a cause. More testing is required, but we were consistently producing this error if I used Remote Desktop to monitor the server window. Upon exiting RDC, clients were not still experiencing this bug... might be onto something here.

It's a possibility, I attempted without plugins and couldn't recreate the issue.

I'm sure thats caused by plugins like Bigbrother, Beardstat ore sth. like that. All these programms want to write sth into a data. As a result Beardstat remove at every startup everithing out of the data. Nothing can be saved. A fix would be awsom.

Now I run everything with adminrights and it works great for me.
Maybe this is the problem. That also would explain why the problem is only on windows.

2) you dont know, like, anything about your server...

those things dont go together really well...
