OH NO, a Minecraft update has broken Bukkit! What do I do!?

First off, relax.

If you're using the new Minecraft launcher, you have a choice on whether or not you want to update to the latest Minecraft release - simply choose "Not now" when it asks if you want to update and you can continue to play on your pre-update Minecraft server.

If you're not using the new Minecraft launcher, backup your old launcher and update it by downloading it from http://minecraft.net, then follow the steps above.

It usually takes us a few hours AT LEAST to get Bukkit working with the latest Minecraft update, so you're better off playing a different game or staying on the previous version of Minecraft, instead. If you have a special server that requires lots of mods, like a class-based server, consider backing up your world, running the new Minecraft update and calling it a grief/fun/fool-around period OR stay on your current version and just keep playing.

Just remember, always backup so you can switch between versions. You're no longer forced to go weeks without a Bukkit powered server.

Once we have a new Bukkit build that is compatible with the newest Minecraft update, we'll put it under rigorous testing and then promote it as a Recommended Build. Usually, due to the way Bukkit and CraftBukkit are designed, plugins should work just fine but there's no guarantee that this is always the case so be sure to test everything on a test server before you go live.

Lastly, we're fully aware that a new update is out - usually before anyone else. Don't spam the forums with threads or IRC with messages informing us that there's a new Minecraft update out. We know. And we're working on updating Bukkit to work with it. The more you bother us, the longer it'll take.

I seem to be having this issue when ever someone attempts to log into my server now:

It wasn't like this before. I've tried taking out all of the plugins, but then it comes up with this mesmerizing ream of information to do with chunks and throwables.
EDIT: I'm now thinking that it is quantity of plugins, but, still, I never had that problem before.

There is a new recommended build. You should've checked before posting.

Also, most plugins aren't working with the recommended build, you'll need to wait for the authors to update them.

Lastly, tell your users to keep quiet. These things take time.

 

The new CraftBukkit seems to be working with 1.4.. I'm using it on my survival server which has these mods:

ScrapBukkit
ChatBukkit
CommandBook+WorldEdit
SimpleSave

I didn't update any of those mods, but they all seem to be working! Huh!

 

its up now. im using it and it completely works with 1.4

 

im running 556 but it seems like more plugins r going to 600+ so im probley go over specially since people on my server will go to minecraft 1.4 and wont beable to play if anny one wants my server ask me

I get this with the most recent build.... It's a little past plugins breaking.
Yeah, I know I'm running JVE7.0 (beta) but It works fine w/o any plugins.

Any Suggestions?

Alright, well i need a lot of help because i cant get my server to run on the latest bukkit software. Im not sure if im doing anything correctly, because this is my first time transfering my map to a new updated server, so im a noob at this server stuff... If someone can create a detailed list of how to transfer your smp map from 1.3 to 1.4 (612), that would be amazing. What im doing now is just downloading the 612 Bukkit firware and putting it inside a folder like what you would normally do, I run 612 and all of the files open inside that folder, then i delete the world it has just generated and then transfered my old world (just simply copying and pasting) to the new 612 firware folder... I change the server settings so bukkit can load the correct map, but when i do that, it still says that its an outdated server... Can someone tell me what im doing wrong? Thanks in Advance

Found at least one problem in build 612, I'm hoping this fix is pulled into 613 :3

Gotta give praise where it's due, great job on the fast response. So far so good on the test server, just waiting for the other mod updates!

 

hey lapzoo any progress with your essentials groupmanager ? thats a big one too might want to check your groups.yml to see if its a compat issue or a messed up .yml .

THANK YOU for testing stuff like essentials and worldgaurd those are required plugins for alot of servers

 

It works perfectly, funny thing is this morning I had finally decided to fix my minecraft beta 1.3 bukkit server and essentials, less than 3 hours after the update I got everything working again (I was too lazy to check until 3hrs later anyways) except /spawnmob wolf doesn't work lol

As someone was asking for plugins to test:
Big Brother
Wormhole X-treme

I've done a cursory pass on Wormhole and the latest seems to be okay... However BB didn't look so great when I tried it. There is a somewhat iffy build from one of the Devs in the thread that MAY work, but it upgrades the database (and as I only have one server, I can't test it myself safely )

If anyone can confirm or deny Big Brother's betaish build, it might work.

The other main dev had surgery recently and therefore is unlikely to update the main post for a week or so

Anyway, thank you Bukkit team for being super fast! I'm a software dev and I know how hard it can be to get something cranked for a deadline (I'm one one now actually :/) so again, you guys are awesome!

First off, thanks for quoting me 3 times.
Secondly, How does me being a dev relate to me asking that question. It was perfectly reasonable to ask that question because with a new MC update and then bukkit racing to update, it very well could have been a CB error.

thnkgod a little brake i was becoming a nerd from al that updating and earching trying to port forward that kind if shit so this little brake isn't that bat after all

 

The new bukkit doesnt work for me, players keep getting teleported back to the position they were when they spawned !

 

i hope essentials and bukkit will be finished first!
