Hello all. I have correctly (I believe) downloaded and started Bukkit. I start Minecraft from a specially prepared MultiMC instance. The game starts and I choose Multiplayer and logon to localhost. The world starts fine. All is fine except I'm unable to give operator commands, just pleb ones like kill. I have no plugins installed, could that be the problem? Do I need to get a particular plugin or do something to the permissions.yml thing? I know nothing about servers, multiplay, etc. I want Bukkit so I can actually enjoy using WorldEdit to make maps. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you're only going to use worldedit, and it's a local server, I wouldn't recommend using a permissions plugin. You probably need to make yourself OP on your server. Type the following in your server-console: 'OP <playername>'

I did. I got this: "I'm sorry but you do not have permission to perform this command. Please contact the server administrators if you believe that this is in error".

Yes, just WorldEdit on a local server. I guess a permissions plugin is an unecessary complication? But how do I become able to give OP commands?

If the server's for you only, and you're using the newest version of Minecraft, I recommend using this. It's much simpler to use. To OP yourself using this, simply type /op <your name> into the console. Alternatively, you can open ops.txt and type your name.

type "op <player name>" into the console or add yourself to the ops.txt.
