Hey, I've spent half a year working on plugins and server software to create my project known as Minescape. It's a full blown modification to change minecraft from a sandbox game to a ductile open-world MMO game. I'm going to put the whole thing bluntly:

General idea, features, and completed work
    Show Spoiler

    - I have a link between all the servers, with a main server connecting all of them. This gives me complete control over events from a single Java program, even allowing me to connect some features between the servers. This isn't the point though - the link stands there as an authentication and a portal for the MySQL server, and also manages the servers and handles connections from an unfinished administration client. The main server also in the future will update the database for the website to display accurate information about the servers.

    - I have two plugins for the servers. One is primarily programmed by Hyjinx, which acts as a library and a mini-plugin for handling the modified monsters in the game. Monsters have different capabilities, reactions, and have levels to represent their health and damage. This makes the game exiting and hard as you progress through it. The second plugin handles just about everything else in the servers.

    - To put it even more bluntly, here's the features of the main plugin spat out:

    * Players level up, have a dynamic amount of health, damage, etc. Hunger is replaced with Mana, which is going to be used by the spell system, and they can configure their stats and choose their race, all with advantaged and disadvantages, based on what the player chooses.

    * There's going to be a dungeon system, being the primary source of leveling up your characters, aside from exploring the already massive map. Dungeon entrances will be scattered about the map, waiting to be discovered. Stereotypical ideas of dungeons in MMOs apply to this.

    * The massive world has a modified spawning system (you spawnpoints yourself, with levels, mobtypes, and ranges), a party system, and an immense amount of detail in the map to keep players curious.

    * Weapons will be categorized with tiers, which will be displayed in the name. The tiers will drastically change the damage (20% per tier), and will be found from higher - level monster drops. Weapon damage also will depend on your class, and your stats. Certain classes are restricted to certain weapons, but this won't limit the game.

    * Character races are split into two combat types. For example, if you chose to be an elf, you could choose between a ranged style with a bow, or a stealthy type with a dagger. You could also assign your stats so that you could have an effective combination of the two styles. This concept keeps the three classes entirely separate, but each having room to customize with.

    * Skills will be unlocked as you assign your stats. These will be unique to certain configurations and can differentiate from a passive ability that helps your party members to a skill that bashes all the monsters around you.

Now you're probably rolling your eyes at these really stereotypical concepts. I get it, but for a minecraft player to understand a game changing modification like this, I need to keep it stereotypical so players can easily pick it up. Here's what I have DONE:

    - The server link (with the exception of a bug with encryption)
    - Leveling and stats assignment
    - Health / Mana / Stats
    - Monsters (not my work), and the spawning system for them (my work).
    - More than half the map
    - Races and race selection
    - Databasing - holds nearly all of the player information so it can be used across the servers
    - A start on the weapons class hierarchy.

    - A bunch of smaller features that aren't worth mentioning

There's the general concept. Confused? Ask me what's confusing.

Want something eye catching to look at? Here's some pretty renderings and edits on screenshots of our map to show you that this is far from started:

Hopefully that gets you an idea of what I'm doing. Now, I want to divert my time to working on other things than this. I saw a lot of potential in this project, and a lot of people contributed from different sides to make this what it is now. I need someone to pick this up and be competent to not only program, but to lead a team.

    Here's what you'll be doing:

    - PHP on the website - very minimal.
    - Server / client programming with Java for the server link
    - Bukkit development to the maximum, exercising a lot of the API and the server.
    - Hosting a development server for this. I have a MySQL database you can use from my hosting service, but I need to use my horrible server machine for other purposes.

To put it simply, you must be experienced with Java, the Bukkit API, and databasing. You will also be:

    - Leading a development team of a building crew, a future server host, a manager, a web developer, and another programmer.

Leadership skills and decision making is prime here. If you're absolutely amazing with programming but you can't present an idea or a feature to the rest of the team, then you're not going to do well.

You will be taking the place as the project leader. You will be directing this whole project and you will be taking it as your own. If that's you, then message me or reply. There's a lot more detail than what is included in this post.

Sounds interesting! Maybe it's possible to join the team as member not leader?

I just want to hand off this project already. I can't just drop it, since it's full of a lot of people's efforts. I don't need another programmer, I need to get this responsibility off my hands.

I still haven't found anyone. If you're considering this, reply anyways.

I like the idea, but I'm not that good of a programmer.

He does. He was fucking rude to me in the conversation because I did not "present" myself properly. Lol. I am a good leader and learns more code every day :D

Tirelessly, want tohelp on my project? see my post

  9. I'm really interested in a plugin like that, but the time needed to manage such a project is a little bit to much for the open time slots i can offer. I hope you find someone with the needed qualification, and more important with proper engagement and time to push this forward.

I'd love to take a whack at it, but I currently have a similar project underway (in which I am the only developer. So much to do!)

    strakerak :

    First of all,
    Doesn't sound so welcoming.

    And this (Thanks, Tirelessly),
Is more than accurate than what I would reply.

But the reason why I'm going to put more emphasis on this, is because you posted on my thread four times, messaged me privately, came on my friends server and tried to get my contact, and then made a fool of yourself while talking to me on Skype.

I did not present myself as rude until you started to tell lies, and not understand what you were asking to take on. Like Tirelessly said, you're less than qualified, and you don't understand the amount of effort it will take to just follow through on this project. Years of study is needed before taking anything of the sort on, and the last thing I'm going to have is some dumb-ass claiming that he programmed his own OS taking my project.

If you can't tell me why you're capable of getting on a project like this, and if you can't advertise yourself as a capable programmer, I can't see how you can lead a large team to get this done.

    Go away.
