I just had a cool idea for a plugin that would teleport all items on the ground that you walk over if your inventory was full, to a pre-designated chest. This would remove the need of having to thumb through all your inventory to see which item you should drop so that you can create room to pick up the new item. I don't know if this is possible but it would be really cool if it works.
