Hi! Ive been running my friends-only bukkit server off of 1G of RAM. I want to change that to 2 or 3G of RAM so I can host my friends with less lag now that we have multiworld. The problem is, is that when I change it to 2G or however the amount of Megabytes that is, it wont let me. I have 12GB of RAM on the computer I am hosting the server on. Is the OS taking up too much space for me to increase the server? I doubt it, as I have checked all my processes and services.
i got that problem once...then i updated my java from java6 to java7...now i can allocate 100 f*ing gb of my harddrive to be a virtual ram...XD
haha...thanks thanks and thanks and one more thing before u start the server... u gotta have to change this from your batch file to run the server: "%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" to whatever is the java.exe for the new java7 usually its in here "%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" or here "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
Yup. I just edited my batch file. Server is now at 3GB. And my computer is now at at least 90 degrees. Good thing it was designed to handle just this. Thanks again!
Isn't that pretty much what automatically happens when you use too much RAM? Doesn't sound like much of a solution.
ever heard of expression?it was just an example...i wouldnt put 100gb virtual ram to minecraft server
I downloaded Java7 for Windows Vista 64 bit, then made changes to my running .bat . It was that simple. Once again, Thanks. Theres another way to do it as well. Since Im on 64bit, I know that the program(84) files usually contains 32 bit programs that arent able to handle over 2 GB of RAM due to the max on a 32 bit system being 4 GB of RAM. If you switch to just Program Files, instead of Program Files (x86), and you have 64 bit java installed, it should work as well.
