Every time I stop my server users.yml in Groupmanager resets itself so I'm the only person in there. So all the other people on my server becomes guest/default and cant build.

Same thing happened to me today. server crashed and everything went to default.
it made a new folder for a few world I uploaded. I had to copy groups and user.yml and now I have a world4 in my group manager. thats keeps regenerating if I delete it and reboot it pops back up. Im assuming this is a new feature to configure multiple worlds.

Since you created the sign.. You cannot actually USE it. Then error "there is nothing to collect from this trade sign" means that nobody has used it yet so there is no $ or items to collect from it. If you create a trade sign, it will work for OTHER PLAYERS. Not the person who made it. Took me a while to figure that out.

Be sure you add the proper permission nodes to the permissions file that you are using.. These will get trade signs working.. Not BUY signs.. Trade signs. Need more perms for $ signs. I don't have $ on my server.

I'm not quite sure... Does this plugin support the feature to let the server know if there's an update? Also is it possible to notify admins when they logon ingame about a newer version for this plugin?
and if possible, a feature to auto update the plugin without any interference from the server admin would be great! this auto update could be set on or off trough the config file then.

How to get Help

First lets categorize your problem:

A: Something won't work!! FIX IT!!!111 go to step 1

B: There is an error in my server log/console, can you help me with it? go to step 3

C: I have a feature suggestion or does Essentials supports this and that? go to step 6 if you have checked the wiki

D: My permissions / group manager won't work. go to step Perm1

Step 1

Calm down.

Make sure your problem is reproduceable, does it happen on every server restart or on every command use?

Is Essentials and bukkit the latest recommended version?

You can check the versions using "/version" and "/version Essentials"

Step 2

Check if Essentials loads correctly. Stop your server, rename server.log and start it again.

If it happens on command use, type the command in game or in console.

Step 3

If Essentials crashes on server start, it is most likely that your config is broken. Check the header of the file for more info on how to configure it. You can check your yaml files here: http://ess.khhq.net/yaml/

Check server.log for errors, they start with SEVERE (or sometimes translated to your language).

All lines after the error are important, it's called a stack trace and it helps us to find the error in our code.

If you don't get an error in the log file, but a command won't work, turn on debug in config.yml.

Step 4

If it's a startup problem, copy the whole startup log, otherwise copy the error and the following lines.

Paste the log to a website like http://pastie.org

You will need to give us the link to the paste.

Step 5

Join the Essentials Chat

Say hello and directly ask your question or tell us your problem, if noone is responding in at least 5 minutes, come back later. Be patient.

Check if someone with a star or speaker after their name is online in the Chat (except Lain, EsperBot or lukegb)

If noone can help you and you have been there for at least 3 times, move to step 6

Step 6

Create a ticket in our ticket system.

Add the error log, if you have one.

Remember your ticket number.

Come back some days later and check for replies from the developers.

Tickets will be closed after 3 weeks, if we need a reply by you.

Check if your files are correct.

If you are using Group Manager, make sure, that the server is not running while you modify the files.

bColoredChat: The signs code conflicts with our signs code. Users can create valid signs, even if they don't have the permission in essentials. Use essentials.signs.color permission for colored signs and not the one from this plugin.

Short FAQ about MC 1.8

Will GroupManager work with MC 1.8?

Because of changes in the bukkit code, the older versions of GM will break. The updated version by ElgarL should work.

The file containing all item names, items.csv of Essentials 2.5.x will be updated automatically, older or modified files have to be updated manually (delete file and let Essentials create a new one)

The items.csv file will be updated automatically in the future, if it is not modified.

New version of GroupManager, that supports Superperms and some parts of the Permissions 3 interface. ElgarL is working on this, so talk to him on IRC to get a dev version, so it will be tested. Report any problems to him directly please.

VanishNoPickup has been removed from this version, it will not be supported by us anymore. We recommend VanishNoPacket, that has the same functionality and is much better.

God mode keeps the food level full

A new feature sneaked into this: There are 2 new permissions: essentials.time.world and essentials.time.player. You need the first one, if you want the users to change the world time.

Again, only a bukkit update release. It partly fixes the problem with iConomy stated above. This also fixes the problem that the GroupManager commands did not work anymore and it was probably the last fix for GM so far. Other plugins can still break GM, see known bugs above.

EcoAPI change: If Ess detects iCo or BOSE, it will use their money storage like the ess commands.

There are many features to be added to Essentials, so we are looking for new developers to help us out. You should have at least some java skills. Contact snowleo, ementalo or KHobbits on irc if you want to join.

We are also looking for translation of our messages file. Translate it to your language and send it to us. Native speakers preferred. Only use these characters when translating the files. Otherwise, the message will be broken in game.

We have rolling releases, the second number in our version number changes, if there is a new minecraft or major bukkit update. We only support the recommended versions of Bukkit.

If you have problems, check if you have the newest versions of Bukkit and Essentials first. In many cases the problem has already been fixed.

Essentials is split in several jar files. These are modules that can be removed, if you don't need them:
Modules that need Essentials.jar: EssentialsChat, EssentialsProtect, EssentialsSpawn

Standalone modules: EssentialsGroupBridge (FakePermission) in combination with EssentialsGroupManager (GroupManager formerly developed by AnjoCaido).

Edit: Nvm there was a user one of my mods added by the name of '09323' or something.

Apparently if someone adds a username that's all numbers to your userlist, it kills groupmanager. Pretty scary exploit.

Downgraded to bukkit 1240 and it has resolved it... but I'd rather it was on 1317 than 1240 >_>

So maybe, you should check you builds before you say they work with 1317 or something. Its very very frustrating as a server admin to get errors and have problems with your server.

Um, I'm not a developer. There's a bug in CB 1317 that causes this. It's fixed in 1318. Hence why I said use 1318.

I'm having a little problem. When I have used Essentials previously, the spawn-point that I have set via /setspawn works. But now, I am spawning on top of my spawn building and not on the point I have set. In the spawn.yml file, everything is how it should be.

Is there anything I can do or fix?

I'm having a problem where if people have "essentials.sleepingignored" then they get "You cant go to bed, your sleep is ignored." All i want is so that if any person is in bed it makes it day regardless if there's other people online. it use to be able to do this, but not any more

(This happens EVERY TIME someone says anything. But it only says it on the CMD it's just annoying. Is it because my server is 1.8.1?)

If you get this on shutdown or reload:
[SEVERE] Error occurred (in the plugin loader) while disabling EssentialsSpawn v2.6.3 (Is it up to date?): null
java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.lang.Class.isAssignableFrom(Native Method)
...
it's because of the broken Bukkit build 1317, use 1318 and it should be gone.

If you get this:
[SEVERE] Could not pass event PLAYER_JOIN to Essentials
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.bukkit.entity.Player.setPlayerListName(Ljava/lang/String ...
Then you don't have Bukkit 1317, update it.
