Problem/Bug "Failed to adapt server configuration"

So, the server crashed when I was asleep, and when I woke up to start it again, I get this error.

So, there's something wrong with the server.properties. Ok, no problem. I go ahead and open the file and there's nothing in there. Still, no problem, I'll just copy/paste the server properties from before and save it.

Well that's where it's get weird. When I saved it and exit to start the server, what I just pasted into the server.properties file is now gone. The file is empty and I get the same error again.

The host is ggservers.net and we're running 1.8.3 Spigot without mods.

Is there a fix for this? Would appreciate any help.
