    Multi Plugin Config GUI
(An easy to use interface for configuring your plugins without any effort!)
    How it started:
I was trying to make a very simple and intuitive interface for a friend of mine so he could change various settings for the Minecart Mania plugin without having to teach him how XML works, and it was him that proposed to make the GUI available to anyone, so i did. People started to use it and give feedback mostly positive and encouraging me to keep at it and improve it! Bugs keep appearing and i keep fixing them!
A few people asked if i plan on making another for other plugins and to their answer i point to my title! Yes more are coming and i will find the best way to have all GUIs i'll ever make in a simple, easy to use solution incorporating auto-updates, i promise i'll do my best for everyone to be happy and smiley!!

What it is in a sentence:
It is a separate tool that lets you configure the various settings needed to configure in a nice and worm GUI instead of manipulating text files.

    • Handles configuration files for plugins!
    • Can access multiple configuration filesets (for multiple servers)!
    • Auto-Updates on startup!
    • Inside app changelog!
    • Selective Plugin support!
    • Options for app behaviour!
    • Full support in a 6 hour basis per day!
    • Export to Text for on-line hosts with no FTP!
    Planned Features:
    • Access to online servers with FTP protocol enabled!
    • Handling of .db files for plugins!
    • Extensive Graphical Interfaces for item list making!(Preview Available!,Some implemented!)
    • Inside application Feedback system for even faster help!
    • Backups for worlds and settings!
    • Bukkit installer and updater!
    • Plugins installer and updater!
    How to use it:
You can use this handy little tool just like any other windows app, simply download install and run it!! any requirements on your behalf will be explained to you during install (if any).
Simply point it at your plugins folder in the options menu for a saved in memory location of the files, or find the plugins directory through the direct menu at the start screen for diferent directories (thus servers) each time! After that tooltips are popping up at each control and explain each function! Always remember to SAVE your work as often as possible!!!
Soon there will be detailed documentation and small videos explaining everything in detail!
    Plugins currently supported by MPCGUI:
Do you know of any plugin that uses .XML files ???
would you like to see it supported in the GUI???
    Let me know!!!
    Post below!!!
    FAQ (open)
    FAQ :
Q: I get an error! "*.xml file not found"!
A: Just make sure you are pointing the gui at the right direction!
    "\YourServer\plugins\" is the right one.
Q: Why is the version number of the gui different then the version stated in this OP since the application auto updates?
A: There is a very tiny chance for me to have forgoten to change it:p , to be sure of the version you have go to the "Info" menu then click "About".
Q: There is a plugin that i use and i like very much, i would like to see it in the gui so it can be even more handy to use and manage, how do i do that?
A: First make sure the plugin uses .xml files for configuration, then simply post it here in the thread with a link and i will add it as soon as i can!

    Known Issues And News (open)
    Known Issues And News
There is a problem in the MMCore please be aware and act accordingly.

All the old users will lose the stored options cause of the new XML file but i guess there are not much of them to restore.
Also i can say that nothing like this will never happen again!
The XML file provides a great way to ensure user data at all times!
It is also what most likely will enable me to add the installer and updater in the GUI!
I am hoping that the system i am gonna be using is gonna be enough to support demand (if there is any), i am planning on monitor downloads and usage statistics to make sure that: a) i am meeting demand in the frequency of the maintenance of the system. b)To be on-top of problems when they arise to minimize downtime (or to eliminate it?).

I am also planning a few more features for the GUI in the coming two weeks, others in the TO DO list and others not, and you should soon expect a plugin from me soon :) !!!
Yes i am trying java out!! not much luck yet but i will get there...

There are a few things i would like feedback on and i would appreciate any effort!
1.Do you think a downloader and updater is in demand in this community?
2.Do you think there are good ones out there already and do you have any suggestions?
3.What is it that you would like to see in the GUI? anything at all!! it doesn't matter if it something about a plugin or anything at all! as long as it is community related!!

I really hope on some answers :)
Have a nice day and a great weekend!!
    Care to Help??? (open)

I really want to include more plugins and i have a few on the grill but i found an obstacle, for the life of me i cannot imagine how the appearance should be!!!
I want it to be usable not only to someone that is a setting up a server from scratch and would like a wizard kind of run through but someone who is testing settings and has to reuse the GUI to be able to get to the setting they need to fast and easely!!
    Any ideas???
[IMG]Any amount of help is appreciated but not required!
    Posting Guidelines:
    • Please post the version of the GUI as stated by the GUI in the About window in the Info menu strip or in the main window title.
    • Please post a description of the bug (if it is a bug).
    • Please post the plugin you have trouble with and it's version if available.
    • Make Sure to check the changelog frequently to avoid silly situations.
I will be glad to get feedback on your thoughts about the GUI too!!!

Is this a plugin or really just a gui (i.e. a tool for an independent plugin)? I can move this to a separate forum for tools.
  5. Offline

This is a GUI to help create the config files for the Minecart Mania plugin.

    John Kapsis

it is a separate tool that lets you configure the various settings needed to configute in a nice and worm GUI instead of the boring text...
and i plan to integrade more controls for more plugins!

I am working around it all night now and i will have it fixed within a few hours.
    Thank you for your patience!!!

This morning my PC got useless due to a virus or something
and i need to make a complete reinstall of windows.

This means that the fix for the bugged version of MMGUI
will be delayed considerably (at least a day).
    I'm sorry for any inconvenience
and i'm also sorry for myself. :'(

    And now some good news

I got my PC up and running again (by luck)
and i started fixing the GUI.
The fix will be ready and published in a matter of minutes (30 at most).

Thank you for your patience and again, i'm sorry for any inconvenience
    that i may have caused.

EDIT: All done. Just Run the app to update!

Is this written in C# or Visual Basic? If it's VB I can help you fix bugs and keep it up to date when your computer is broken, if it's C# I can help you fix minor bugs and help you spell. (Please don't take offence of that)

    Good luck, great idea!

but i cannot just hand out the source code!
you can see the major part of it here
how well do you know VB??

    Yet another update!!!

Just a suggestion... when you answer a post in the other thread about your GUI, please always post a link back to this Thread. That way we can hopefully reduce the amount of posts in Afforess' thread and keep the people coming here.

    will do!

I think you don't need any help from me (Code looks great!) ;) Maybe I can fix some spelling and grammatical errors in your text?

Edit: Looked through it a bit more, there are some things that can be cleaned a bit more in my opinion. Such as your "clusterfuck" at button 28 and 35...again, great job for a first project!

Thank you very much for the kind words, but i know it's messy....
I'm planning on changing the "SaveSeq" Public Subs along with some others
for cleaning up a bit and making it even more stable and able to handle a few new features
i want in there. It will get larger but cleaner and tidy-er!

    I am open to sujestions!!
how could i clean that up???

There is actualy something i need help with!
Do you know how i could parse yml???
i found this with googling but i can't understand jack...
does it make any sence to you??
if it does could you send me a tiny sample program?
i was hoping to make a suite of configurators and a project like that needs
more fingers!! (for typing!) you interested???

Use ElseIf and also don't call buttons, instead make a function and call that instead. You might also want to change the way error handling is done, like make it more specific to certain functions by using
'Run the code here, maybe a streamreader call or XDocument?
    Catch ex As Exception
    'Send a error message
    msgbox("Uh oh!")
    End Try

I'll have a look into the YAML parser and try to understand some...

    John Kapsis

    That is already planned!
that's why i started "Naming" errors!!!
ok, here is what i'm planning:
    • I'm gonna change the code where necessary to include version checking and the ability to the user to choose what versions of the xml is gonna be output!(very specific error checking, like the error 41 is when you load a file with older version then the current,[no TryCatch here.] or if you try to load but no file error 50[with TryCatch])
    • change the code where necessary to save the stored values in local database instead of the values displayed on the form, that will give me flexibility to add "profiles" and a set of cool "default" profiles/presets! And will also add up that if you run your server with updated plugins and you got an older xml version(Afforess added that recently)then you don't loose your settings but only the xml!
    • Recreate the Item lists!!! I really don't like the way lists work!!!(most of it was done when drunk...) they are currently robust and won't make any mistake but i really want to re-imagine them from scratch, and add infinite number of lists and a categorized "board" for selecting items for there...
    • There are a few more things on my list but i'll leave it for later.
Also may i sugest that you get that piece of code i sent you and add whatever changes you want in a comment way in VB so i can evaluate what you send and replace the code where needed!!

Thanks for taking a look at the ymls!

about that yml stuff you found, i tried making a permissions editor with that....

i failed, couldn't find anything useful for it

    i know...
    same here!!!
is there a class for text parsing so i can use keywords or something.
    any links?
couldn't find anything in the msdn library and foroums...
thanks for all the help and i hope you are still intrested!!!

Absolutely love this extra program, allows me to change settings in under ten seconds, instead of having to browse through file after file looking for a certain option.

However, a wee improvement that i can think of is to remove/compress the warning popups that come up whenever files are saved, into a single message.

    "MinecartManiaConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaAdminControlsConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaChestControlConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaSignCommandsConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaStationConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaStationConfiguration.xml is saved!"

"Your Minecart Mania configuration files have been saved!"
    John Kapsis likes this.
  21. Offline

    or even better:
    MinecartManiaConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaAdminControlsConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaChestControlConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaSignCommandsConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaStationConfiguration.xml is saved!
    MinecartManiaStationConfiguration.xml is saved!
    (this for every file)
    ' save the file
    configfilename = true   '(bool)
    configfilename = false
    end try
    then at the end:
    [CODE]if configfilename = false then
    messagebox.show("configfilename failed")
    end if
    messagebox.show("all files saved")
just a suggestions, you could do more with it

EDIT: Just got to it!!! Enjoy!!!

This is what i came up for now...

I wanna change the error handling in the load sequence before i give this any more attention.
Right now it loads everything like one big chunk, i wanna break it into pieces and directly link the load and save procedures so they are aware of one another! that way i will be able to have an infinite amount of .xml i can process without getting lost in one endless Public Sub.
    Divide & Conquer !!!
    What do you think?

just a suggestion, there have been a couple of users that wanted to see the default comments in the config files you produce. you may want to have an option to stick them back in when you save the file.

    keep up the good work.

You need to point the program at the plugins folder!
    the general one not specificaly.
that folder is in the same directory as the craftbukkit.jar file is....
it is the folder that contains the plugins.

Yeah, i get 2 missing files, or are they not a big deal?

    config.xml [Not Found]

those are only if you have the plugins :)
don't mind them if you dont have backback or simplebarter
