Worldguard vs Towny

I have extensive experience with Worldguard. It's a great plugin but is rarely updated.

I was hoping to get some feedback from people that have used one or the other, or preferably both.

lol. It's been working great since January, and is constantly being developed. Just because sk89q doesn't slap a new version number on every other dev build and call it 'update' makes you say "rarely updated"?

 

I actually use both plugins. I use worldguard for big areas outside of town (such as the mob arena) and towny for the large towns I have on the server. They seem to work pretty well but my towny is stuck in the "cannot place warflag" mode that I can't seem to ge it out of no matter what I do.

 

update to latest towny (v76.2.0).

 

The fact it's rarely updated makes me say rarely updated. But good call.

 

Why update something that works? To add more features? You could give them suggestions of things to add.

 

Worldguard/edit is updated almost every single day.

 

Have both, haven't used WorldGuard areas yet.

 

I have installed Towny a total of 3 times. All 3 it caused world data corruption, forcing me to use Chunkster to fix dozens of chunk errors. It has never worked correctly for me, going back as far as May. I have a giant sticky thread on top of my server forums saying simply "If I ever talk about installing Towny again, remind me how much of a pain in the butt it is and talk me out of it."

If the dev ever checked the thread he would read hundreds of suggestions and problems that are encountered with WG, but, he never does.

I have experienced no problems with WG, I like it a lot actually. But I have no used Towny and the point of this thread was to get peoples opinions on the two.

There are dev builds being made every day or two. Just look at the left hand column and check the dates.

 

There is a large difference between dev and rb. Sorry.

Um yes.
Try staying up to date on their dev builds, theres a new one almost every single day.

With WG there is no big staibility difference between dev and rb as there is with CB. Infact its been said dev is more stable then wg rbs at times. Your wrong and quite misinformed.

 

I've helped WG with a problem with //rotate -90
The fix is in one of the dev builds. In that specific case, the dev build has less problems.

 

Still waiting for more then one person to post something constructive and related to this thread.

 

Im sure youd get something "constructive / related" if you asked an actual question other then; "gimmie opinion on this vs that"

World guards protection > Towny's Protection

I hate how towny you have to walk around and claim stuff, worldgaurd also has alot more features that you can set for each region. anyway sk89q is a BOSS!

 

I still don't have a full understanding of everything you can do with World Guard. It dosnt seem any different when I use my server?

Yes i learned how not to make a thread. Next time ask a question, instead of starting your 2 sentence topic including; "It's a great plugin but is rarely updated." - If your making a false statement how is someone to ignore that and not respond to it? lol. But im used to it, bukkit forums have alot of these threads pop up daily. Congratulations.
