A little transparency into the backlog of defects would be nice, so we can see the progress towards a 1.8 RB

taking what we can get though :)

Not whiny at all. Most people inthe community are egare to see the progress. I have a big project held up due to the bukkit project hold up, but it would be great if the devs posted at least some info as to the progress.

And for fucks sake, why can they involve more coders into this? I'm sure there are many eager programmers out there who would like to get in on the action. And don't give me that "Out of control" shit. With a nice means of communication and output from the team this can be done quicker. But hey, what the fuck do I know, I don't code in Java just yet.

Any programmer out there can get into the action :p

You can do pull requests with which you can update old pieces of code.

^ I liked this line... smh

OK guys. really? You're running DEV builds. They're working on the thing. Would you like them to field PR on the build before its even done or would you like them to spend their free time working on craftbukkit and having a life too, that'd be nice.

Its like asking someone why the meal doesn't taste very good, and why and what can we expect it to taste like part of the way through making the damn meal. Just sit down, be patient...its coming!

    You can also do this:

I know you prefaced this with the "whiny brat alert" but honestly, that's just a poor excuse for being a malcontent.

Watch the craft bukkit twitter page http://twitter.com/#!/Craftbukkit

If you have questions you can ask them directly. But really, F-ing wait...its close

There could be a problem with too many programmers :(
You see, there could be one corrupt programmer that could add a line of code, creating a dupe, and go around abusing every server =\
Would make the most sense to have only their trusted people doing the job. Too bad they have these things called "lives" though, or we would probably already has a bukkit :3

AFAIK, they are aware, and I bet they're probaly creating a way to solve it, while keeping the orbs. (so you can decide what to do, including disabling altogether.)
Actually a Minecraft Native bug, you need to aim a bit higher.
This is why there isn't an RB yet, they're fixing stuff like this.
Is part of the development, they need to do it properly the first time otherwise they will break every single plugin that uses that API.
Also, they want the server to run properly, before adding new shit.

Welcome to open source development. You can check on the progress of the project yourself, rather than having someone tell you what has been done.

If you want a list of things they have done, and what they have worked on as well as test builds

Plenty of info is released as it happens on #bukkit and #bukkitdev at the esper irc network. Your problems are almost all problems caused by Notch. Yes orbs are an issue, which is why I modded Craftbukkit and hard-coded them out. If you find it a pain don't complain, figure out how to solve it.

There is no confusion, only self inflicted ignorance. The information is there, you just need to try a little bit to find it.

For what it's worth, I have been running Dev build 1149 since literally the minute it came out, and I'd never know it's not an RB. I've had absolutely zero problems or issues. My server is up 24/7 with a max of 76 players and an average in the teens to 20's and I have maybe a dozen plugins. No issues, no problems, and my players are loving 1.8.

Just because it doesn't say RB on it doesn't mean it isn't a viable build. I for one am extremely happy that the team shares the dev builds with us rather than making us wait for the final RB. It has allowed my community to play 1.8 since a day after it came out, through various dev builds. I've run three of them so far, and none have really had significant issues except for not being able to walk through double doors on the earlier ones. I've only been upgrading to the latest dev version in case there was something going wrong that I couldn't detect.
