    I have been running two public MC server for some time and am not a noob however I have spent a week on what I am sure is a simple solotion but cannot fix it. My server will no longer display a server name or the motd. Nothing in server.properties has changed from when it was working like a week ago. However now it shows the default name of Minecraft Server and no motd when you connect. If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Server.properties entries:

    server-name=Computer SMP
    motd=Welcome to the server!

    I didn't know that Minecraft or Bukkit automatically displayed anything in the motd category in your server.properties file. What plugins are you using and how do you host your servers. Also, have any major events happened to them recently, such as a power outage, change in host, or changing plugins?

    I am running current version of Bukkit server with no plugins except pail on a dedicated Windows Server 2008 box. Nothing has changed in any manner. Same hardware, no plugins, same server.properties file. I did update the pail plugin file however the problem occured before the update and rolling back to previous version did not fix either. Also by default the new versions server.properties do not add a motd, I tried removing the entry just in case that was the problem, however my server after restart was still called Minecraft Server even tho the server.properties file says server-name=Computer SMP.

    Are you running any server wrappers? If the server.properties file does not come with MOTD by default (as I suspected) then it is not going to read/care about you putting it in there.
