    At first srry for my Bad english im German.

    I need help too. My Vserver has 2*1.9ghz and 6 GB Ram. In past I was able to run a (hmod) 1.2 minecraft server with 40 players with only lags by using worldedit. Now my server cpu is by 50-80 % by 4 players!
    A test server without plugins use 50-60% of my CPU by 4 players. I think that is crazy an I dont want to update my Vserver.

    I hope that that will be fix in a few days.

    We are using a Vserver too. Since Bukkit versions for 1.6 the cpu load goes to 99.9% right after starting the bukkit server. Even made a clean server with new map, no plugins etc... It doesn't help.

    where do i add the -Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal in this: (java -Xmx2048M -Xms1024M -jar /home/oblexx/public_html/Bukkit/craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar > /dev/null &)?

    EDIT: NVM i found it

    Code:
    start /b javaw -Xincgc -Xmx2G -jar -Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal crafty.jar

    and server droped from 25% no people online to .5% no people online

    I have put the Djline thing but it does nothing instead of spamming me with (Done! type Help or ? ...) but i dont know if i have do it right. I have put:
    java -Xmx2048M -Xms1024M -jar -Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal /home/oblexx/public_html/Bukkit/craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar > /dev/null &
    I use the #863

    In my case where I use a GUI I just choose to run it in terminal, aka getting two windows for the server instead of one.

    @Everyone:
    This is a known issue with JLine that is causing high CPU usage when running CraftBukkit in the foreground which we are looking into. Until we can figure this out, we advise you to add -Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal. See below for examples. This applies if you run java outside of a screen or use something like nohup in Linux, as well as if you use javaw.exe instead of java.exe on Windows, though there may be more cases this problem can arise in, too.

    It goes before the -jar, like so:
    You have it in the wrong location, see above.

    You also have it in the wrong location, see above.

    Im running it in screen, and im still having way higher CPU after build #818

    Intel Core i5 760
    16GB DDR3
    Ubuntu server 11.04
    Java 1.7

    Still having trouble locating the exact cause, other than CPU usage is way high. And the plugin list is short, bigbrother, essentials, LWC, groupmanager, multiverse, wordguard, worldedit, magiccarpet for mods/admins and countryloginmessage. IMO a very short plugin list.

    Having real problems with this issue.

    I have Ubuntu 11.04. 16gb Memory. World File running in a 1gb Ram Disk. 12gb Allocated to Java. Tried the djline thingy - not helped. I too am running in a screen.

    I get 20 users on (no mobs) and Processor is hitting over 100%. Seems ludicrous for a Dual Core 3ghz Xeon.

    Had to take off Multiverse because that was killing it. Mobs do too. This can't be normal. How are there servers out there accepting over 100 users and I can barely accept 25-30 on what I'd consider to be a very good spec machine. Memory isn't helping - doesn't matter how much I throw at it the processor capacity is reaching max before it needs memory.

    using Build #953
    Java 1.7 64bit

    I'm in exactly the same boat chris, got a decent machine which previously could handle 20+ players easily and now it's struggling sometimes before I even get to 20 (it idles fairly high too). A solution to this that works with screen would be awesome. I'm surprised there aren't more posts on this as surely a fair number of people use screen to run their servers.

    You imply that the problem is with SCREEN. I have done tests and found no CPU difference between running the server either in or out of a SCREEN.

    At the time when I tested (quite some time ago) I did find that the server used less cpu when I ran it in the foreground using the parameter evilseph mentioned a few posts back, as opposed to running in screen like I normally do. I've not done any tests recently and the servers been running fine (though still with higher cpu than previously, just not stuck at 100% cpu on one core anymore) so it's entirely possible that that's not the case anymore.
