NOTE: If this is a wrong subforum to ask such question please move the thread, thanks.

As the title says. I used to have an idea of creating 1000+ (yes, ten thousands) slot Minecraft server after discovering that Xeon E5 and above supports 700+GB of RAM (I am serious) and since you can build a dual Xeon CPU server that also means the amount of RAM is doubled as well, resulting more than 1000GB of RAM (hence the slot number), and this is without considering bandwidth (consider 100/50MB per slot, I feel that that's a lot of bandwidth needed - unless I counted it in a wrong way).

But since last time I have heard that Minecraft itself does not support more than 8GB of RAM (if I am right, that's probably a few years ago) and there's no related topic on the web, I decided I'd just ask right here.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Before you tell me, I knew that idea is alreadt beyond wild, but techically how much RAM can you allocate?

Not sure what it is for actual Minecraft, but a Minecraft server is different. Afaik, you can dedicate as much RAM as you have available. Honestly that's not even the real problem, the real problem is supporting that many people on one server as a Minecraft server uses only one thread of the CPU.

Also, if I go in to my Multicraft panel for my server, I can set my slots to 10,000, boom :p ;)

Dual CPU does not mean double the memory too...
But yes, there are server rack configurations that support 1 TB of memory for these

    Wait, Bukkit is not multithreaded?
If yes, that actually sound like a waste buying Xeon E5+ (8/12/16/32/whatever threads) solely for Minecraft server only is a waste (or, host multiple Minecraft server in one server (in addition of web server etc.) seems to be a better option)

Yes, it is kinda a waste. If you're running multiple servers, possibly Bungee'd, a MySQL database, and also a webserver then that's a good idea. I'd like to let you know however, that Bungeecord servers aren't supported here, so if you were to do that then you wouldn't be able to get assistance with problems.

I would have pointed that out @oceantheskatr a while ago, if my settings were to have the sigs displayed ;) So I wont say I dropped the ball on that one fully.
