Ok so dont really know whats gone on with the bukkit website recently, but whatever it is, its not good this end lol I can no longer use my smart phone on bukkit as it force closes the internet after a few pages, and on my pc if i have over several pages open (for relating to and setup) it max's out a couple of the the cores (i7) and the browser becomes totally unresponsive. I should mention i am the type to regularly have tons of pages open in multiple browsers and never experienced anything like this before. (actually thinking about it this happens on a couple of other minecraft websites too, the one's plastered with adverts, but i avoid opening multiple pages in them.) It constantly updates / loads the page, may stop for a sec then goes again. It seems like adverts have gone crazy or something seriously wrong elsewhere. Has something changed here recently? as i can't remember having this issue when using the site a few months ago. Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this with multiple (bukkit dev) pages opened?
Have you ever tried to profile a typical page loading on this forum ? No ? Well I did. It takes an average of 40 seconds and 2mb to have the forum's main page, for example, to load completely. 40 seconds and 4 Megabits !!! I have a decent connection (65/15Mbps, <5ms ping to ISP), and a more-than-decent computer, and not only does the forum takes nearly a minute to load everything, it also locks up the browser for a few seconds when loading a page ! We would think it could be because of the gravatar integration and all the pictures having to be downloaded from another server, but no, that's not the issue ! Gravatars are all downloaded in the first second of the total handshake. It's because of the ads On the 240+ requests a typical page loading has, MORE THAN 200 ARE DUE TO ADS. Don't believe me ? Here is a list of an usual loading. Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler (The scales got messed up because I screenshotted as it loaded) I get that you're poor and all, but that kind of ads provider is just bad and is exactly the reason why more and more people use ad blockers (and ultimately make you win less money). Do something about this before your forum becomes unusable because of the Ad provider making 200 more redirections.
I seem to get this to, Im very sure its not my connection though I got 250mbit uplink and a 3,1 ghz octacore running on IE11, before the forums where updated I had slight cpu lag so Im not 100% sure if its something with the update, but it seems to happen to minecraftforums often so now to. for my feeling I think the site tries to render everytime a image like how browsers render svg images (couldn't find a svg image here) but I know these can cause a bit laggy behaviour.
@Jadedcat That's the only thing that got changed... By you ! When ads providers change their mechanics, you have absolutely no grasp on this. If they decide to use 200 redirections to get you to the ad, they can. I am against ads, but almost never complain about them, but on here it's just too much.
@jthort *Ad You can do that but I would whitelist places like TwitchTV and YouTube. Show your support for the content creators.
I do it for this forum only. I use adblock on every other site, but yes, bukkit should REALLY look for new ad providers. I've seen the same problem that @Webbeh has though. The page loads FOREVER...
Some of these ads are awful. They lock-up my i7 PC with 120 Mbps Internet connection for 30 to 60 seconds.
The bukkit site is chock full of things that are tracking you, as are all websites nowadays, but not enough people are aware of this. Most people know they are being tracked, but very few know the sources. I believe that they should be known. The following are tracking devices on the main page of bukkit. I would not deem any of them malicious. Almost every website you visit has tracking devices, about 5 to 8, but Bukkit hosts 12, which in my opinion is overkill. There have been several threads recently speaking of the absurd loading time of ads on this site, and you are about to figure out why. 7 of these are ad related. It's crazy. I am not attacking Bukkit, I am just pointing out something that needs to be changed. ADTECH (AOL) Manages ads on the site. Its been out for that long? Have I been living? Nah, but adblock+ is actually better because hackers/(US >: D) have gotten smarter to make almost all ads a virus (Its getting old) Its sad how many people use it, but I think some other company may come out with a non-adblock ad
