Get UUID from playername from outside of minecraft.

    It's not exactly plugin development, but this is the most closely related place I could find to get help. Pretty much, how could I enter in a username into an application, and get their UUID back? I need this to be able to access elements in my database from a control panel I want to design to manage data in my custom plugins.

    I've done Mysql and quite a bit of java in itself, but one thing I am not familiar with is network and URL querying, could you give me a few points to get started? (Like what methods and classes do I need to use and what part of mojangs server do I need to use).
