So I can get on my server using localhost, but when my friends try to log on to it using my external IP, it says connection failed. Any help?
Yes, I have port forwarded, though I'm not too sure it was done correctly, but before it was saying in the run.bat log thing for my server that the port wasn't available or something like that, then I went into my router page and did some stuff and everything was running as normal, except friends couldn't join.
port forwarding is crucial. if you want to bypass portforwarding and host it without issues you'd still need acess to your wifi config. just put your private ip in the dmz or forward the port to 25565
Can I get a look at your 'server.properties' file? Make sure there is no ip entered in the 'ip address' section.

Yep. Most likely, its because the port was not forwarded correctly. It's really a lot easier if you use this tool that port forwards for you. (It costs money now but there should be a workaround such as the other alternatives which are free). If it's a server just for you and your friends or basically a server that isn't public, you should use Hamachi instead which would be saving you a lot of time and stress.
I have AT&T NVG 510, I've researched how to port forward on my router, and it tells me to go to the NAT/Gaming section, and I've done everything possible there but nothing seems to work. Egolfius
