Hey, I posted a similar topic previously but this one is with an updated sense of the problem and I am curios to know if anyone can help me.

Basically when i join my own server (with nobody online) my cpu usage overall is about 40% while playing, However, it lags immensely from the clients perspective, when i type, it takes a long time to come up and be visible to me, even though the server (and other players) receive my message immediately.

Basically the server is receiving packets from me immediately but not sending them back to my client for a long time, or is being delayed somehow.

Is there any possible fix for this or would anyone happen to know what is causing the problem? I am using the vanilla craftbukkit server, 4gb assigned to java no plugins.

    My specs are -

    AMD Phenom 1055t x6 @ 3.5ghz
    8gb Corsair DDR3 running at 1332mhz (w/oc, default 1333)
    GTX 470 1280mb GDDR5
    1tb spinpoint f3 hdd

I really hope you can help, i just want to play with a few friends and family and it's really starting to aggravate me.

everyone keeps throwing the reason that its since 1.3 at me but i dont understand how other people have their servers working. i had a completely lag free experience prior to 1.3. this is so frustrating

FYI i tried MyMCAdmin aswell as Bukkit, both have the same issue. this is seriously stupid, unplayable. I wish notch would concentrate on sorting the issues out instead of ignoring them

Does nobody have a temporary fix for this? somehow people must be bypassing the issues or there would be no servers running! but clearly its a widespread issue.

    bump. please help.

well people do not run the server on the same machine as client, that's why they are working.

oh so since 1.3 it's unreasonable to expect it to be able to run on the same machine? even though the server is running in a wrapper?

Also, why are some of my players recieving the very same issue, even over LAN, while i am not playing. i pointed out the localhost way because it takes latency out of the equation.

I used to play in 1.2, hosting the server on a crappy dual core amd cpu, and playing on the same comp with 2 people joining me over lan with no issues whatsoever, so would you like to clarify why it's happening now on a much much more powerful machine?

I have exactly the same issue here, used to run a server on my laptop, which my friends could then connect to and we'd play together, me also running the client on my laptop.

Then I haven't played in a while, I updated craftbukkit and my plugins, fixed the issues that appeared and booted the server.

It plays fine with me connected while running the server, and fine with any other players connected and me not playing, but if I'm connected and another player is connected, then I lag out to the point at which it is unplayable.

This is awful as it means I cannot play with my friends any more wihout paying for hosting, which I shouldn't have to do, we need a fix for this issue.

    I should add, running:

    windows 7 64 bit

latest java 64 bit and 32 bit

    craftbukkit 677 (minecraft 1.4)

    borderguard 3.00
    general 2.2.4
    heroicdeath 1.7.3
    multiverse 1.6.2
    multihome 0.8
    permissions 2.6
    wormhole x-treme 0.833

Is it a possibility that me using 32bit java could be causing these issues?

I've just updated to 64bit so i'll test it

update: 64bit didn't make the slightest bit of difference.

also, important to note. I have discovered it lags when 3 players+ are on, for 1 player. If i join, and 1 other person is on it works fine, if i'm on and 2 others it lags badly for me. If i'm not on at all, and 3 players are on, one of them will recieve the lag while the other 2 work flawlessly. once again CPU usage is not close to high. This means what Plague said is definitely not causing the problem.

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLP!

anyone found out if 1.5 fixed this yet?

I don't know if this is what's causing your issue, but I had an area of my map that would cause a slow but ever growing lagginess when ever someone was in it, which would eventually render the game unplayable after a few minutes. Turns out several thousand squid had all managed to congregate in the lowest area of my rather large sea, and being within chunk load distance of these squid caused the lag. I used a no-animals plugin to remove the squid, and everything got better.

Yeh, I use a dedicated server to host, no problems..

I have to say it is really smooth running. Also uses little CPU and RAM compared to 1.4.

I would recommend hosting off a separate machine. You should not play and host on the same machine..

Honestly I think you have enough processor speed and memory to handle a server just fine while playing. Do you set your affinities from task manager to make the server and application run on different cores? Every time I load them I usually set two cores for the server, and the others for my gaming and whatever else. Even though your CPU isn't being used much, it may speed things up to keep the server and client separate. When I don't do this mine lags. But my specs aren't as nice as yours either.

There is no reason you can't host and play on the same machine, and it used to work fine, it was broken in an update, and it needs to be fixed.

I'm going to try running them on different cores now, see how that goes and report back.

Derp, I updated to 1.5 and can't roll back, gonna have to wait on this one until the bukkit update.
