Will mojang own multiplayer vanilla server always be so bad that there will always be a requirement for the bukkit server?

I always thought bukkit was going to replace the vanilla server when part of the bukkit team got hired by mojang, now I dunno, and the mod api whats up with that...

Did you see what mojang wanted?

Mojang is still developing their plugin API. I imagine when this API comes that it will be easier to make plugins for vanilla minecraft servers. Will the plugins be able to do the same things that can be done with bukkit? No one can know that at this point.

Doesn't feel like mojang make anything better, just worse compared to what outsider developers have done to improve the game before being broken by another update.

this mod api sounds like something that should be good but given how long its taking and the kinda progress they make in general i feel like its train wreck in slow motion.
