    Hello!

I am about to buy one of these:

    Option 1
CPU: Intel Xeon X3450 (8 log cores)
RAM: 16 GB DDRIII 1333 ECC Memory
HD: 2 x 250 GB SATA Hard Drives
BW: 100 Mbps / Unmetered Transfer*

    or

    Option 2
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 sandybridge (8 cores w/HT)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 ECC Memory
    HD: 1000 GB Hard Drive
    BW: 100 Mbps Unmetered*

About how many servers could I run at once if they had ~10 standard mods like wolrd edit and 40-50 players each.

There is also an option to upgrade to 1 Gbps burstable monthly for the bandwidth. What does burstable monthly mean? And would this be beneficial for the servers?

Appreciate any help you can give me, thanks!

An x3450 is a pretty old processor. The sandy bridge one is definitely better.

As for bandwidth, you do not need 1gbps at all. Not worth paying for.

2nd option definitely, if you can, try to get SSD, it's a bit better/faster than HDD

Well in that case, how many players could this support on one server?

What about if I wanted several server. Say 40 players each.
Could it handle 4 or 5? More? Less?
I have heard MC servers only use one core so is there a way to specify what core to use or will it switch to the lowest used on its own?

    Thanks!

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 sandybridge (8 cores w/HT)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 ECC Memory
    HD: 1000 GB Hard Drive

Yeah, 40 players on 4gb would work perfectly fine, you could probably get away with 3gb 40 slots, but I would do testing first.

MrGhetto But what about for several servers?

    Are you saying this:
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 sandybridge (8 cores w/HT)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 ECC Memory
    HD: 1000 GB Hard Drive

Could handle 4 servers with 40 players each?

    16gb ram 3gb a piece, yeah.

MrGhetto that would be 4gb each :3

Looking for a second opinion before I buy.

    Appreciate the input.

I run 75 people on 4gb, you could run 40 people on 3gb.

Could this host run a bunch of little servers? Maybe like 20 8 players ones?

Yes, your second choice the e3 shouldn't have any issues doing that.

minerdave Would that need the 1gbps burstable or no?

    minerdave

    No, that would be overkill.

I get 100+ people on 3Gb almost everyday. 4Gb allocated.

Stop the feud and just get back on topic, ignore each other and if you find the other post offensive, just report it.

OP, your specs on the second machine should be good for your intentions, plain and simple.
