Right. I've started a Bukkit server for me and my friends to play on. I port forwarded and all that and it worked perfectly. My external Ip was 81.159.138.124. My IPv4 address was 192.168.0.4. I used the IPv4 address to connect myself to the server, and somehow found out that 81.151.38.82 was needed to connect my friends to it. They used that, and connected.

Then I went on holiday, and my Ip address changed to 86.139.75.178. The IPv4 address changed to 192.168.0.3. No problem. I port forwarded that and connected to the server using that. It worked! However my friends cannot connect. How do I find out the address my friends need to connect? My default gateway is 192.168.0.1 if that helps.

  2. google for "my ip" the very top result will be:
Your public IP address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Thanks, but the number shown is the same as my external address! Should this be the number my friends are using to connect? They tried to use it, but they couldn't connect.

It must be external IP. They wouldn't be able to connect unless they and the server were on the LAN. Also check if the port-forwarded port is still pointing at server's internal address.

Hmm...a quick check on www.canyouseeme.org showed that my 25565 port is open. How do I find out which ip I give my friends to connect to the server? Thanks for your help by the way.
