Internal exception: java.io.IOException: Received string length longer than maximum allowed (18 > 16

Got this message when I tried to go on my own bukkit server. It was working fine and then I installed these 2 plugins.

So I'm assuming they are the problem. Help please!

 

I have the same problem on my local server, impossible to connect (online / offline mode). I have tried to remove all plugins but the error persist. This is first time i have this error.

 

Are you sure you don't have TabDeco v1.1.0 ? It's a known error.

EDIT: I see that UltraHardcore changes what's shown in the tab player list, so it's probably that.

 

In my experience this error happened when a player enters a chunk where a entity has a name tag longer than 16 characters (set by a plugin), the client instantly crashed whenever the entity was in viewing distance of the player.

I am having the same thing happening to me since 3 days. I waited for that RB to come see if it would change anything but no. I don't think I have anything that changes/creates entities with a string value of over 16 chars. (to refer to Milkywayz.

Tab Deco was the problem for me

 

I kind of forgot about this thread, but I'm back. If TabDeco is the problem, how do I remove it? Thanks.

 

Stop your server.
Go to the plugins folder.
Delete TabDeco.jar (or whatever you called it).
Restart your server.

 

I have Tab Deco but its 17>16 and i was wondering if one of the rows/boxes has 17 chars because in the config file it says no boxes over 16 and if it would be fixed if i changed it back to 16.

Just happened again. That dude just logged yoyodeath031347 (15 chars) it seems like long character names tend to crash servers. I can't just disable all plugins and try to reproduce the problem by asking someone to join because there is no way to contact the ones that joins the server. Anyone could help me out? But I don't know for you but the server does not stop. It just becomes impossible to join back. When that happens, you only get that message and can't connect until server restart. It's night time here and I was going to sleep now I will have a hard time to sleep fearing that that dude joins and crashes the server. Though it should restart in the middle of the night.

Where is the place to paste bugs? I know I found many of similar ones but they occured since a long time and no apparent fix found. And many are just marked as duplicates.

Edit: Forgot to mention I changed the Skillz plugin for mcMMO did few changes to config and added some perms. Did not test everything yet because I am busy these days. A part from adding bars over the mobs, I don't think it changes entities' names.

When the crash that happened today happened when i was just playing around survival. I was alone on the server and did not move more than 25 block from where I logged so...

The server stopped crashing that way since 2 days from my last post. Yet I cought only 2 players crashing my server that way crafter_assassin and yoyodeath031347.

 

Color codes count towards the 16 character limit. Get rid of color codes in the tab list and the names shown over players.
