hi, i am planning to host a server and looking for some feedback
on if it seems reasonable to host and how many people you would
expect to connect with NO LAGG,

    my specs are:
    CPU: fx4100(quad core) 3.6ghz
    GPU: Radeon 6770(should not matter)
    RAM: 8 gbs(2 gbs used for windows/etc)
    HDD: 1TB 5400 rpm(i believe the RPM is that(not 72))
    DownSpeed: 19mbps
    UpSpeed: 10~11 mbps

and i plan to play on the server also with this computer/internet.

so as i said could someone rate my set-up on how many players could
connect with quite a few plug-ins(from admin tools to multiverse)

thanks for any and all feedback you may give.

That will be your biggest problem. Playing the game itself on the same machine that runs the server almost always causes big lag.

so if i dont play on the server PC what would you rate it? what would be the weakest part of the computer for hosting? i believe i calculated the server (internet wise) can handle 33 ppl?

CPU being an FX-4100 I doubt you'd have a problem. The biggest problem on hosting a server is often your upload speed. Results back from that site with a JVM of 4096M, says around about 30 players. It varies depending on what plugins you load onto it, though. Taking the fact you'd want a fair few that require things like MySQL, I'd say 20 players.

The biggest problem is the fact that the server won't be 24/7...

ok i thought so....hope for the best tho ^^.....
does local host count towards connection?

e,x if i had another computer on the network joining via localhost will it take from others connection still?

If players are joining on LAN and/or localhost this counts as a player on the server, so yes. The only thing it won't make an impact on is the amount of data you are uploading/downloading. So if you have 3 players on LAN, you could have 33 slots instead of 30 and still be okay.

Pretty powerful comp - if your players have good computers they shouldnt lag. But if the host pc is using too much RAM on other programs other than bukkit (like minecraft) it could possibly lag...

well i notice CMD says it has to catch up or something like that sometimes.....usually after a player uses a command on reloads but i still have like 2 spare gigs of ram so what could be causing this?

I'm not familiar with AMD processors, but you should be in pretty good shape with your upload speed and a multi-core CPU. I have a 3 year-old i7-860 2.8 GHz (4 cores / 8 threads), 12 GB of RAM, and an 8 Mbps upload. We can host a server with 15 players, play Minecraft on the PC, and stream HD video on the LAN, all at the same time with no lag.

How much RAM do you allocate on the Java command line? I find 4 GB works best with my PC.

RAM is really cheap right now, you could always try adding more if your motherboard supports it.

well i do 4gb also and ram is cheap right now ? when i bought my 2x4gb stick(when i built the rig) i spent 20$ and now its like 30-40$ for the same XD but i want/need two 8gb sticks instead. but as u said i should be fine

    -hoping for the best
