Craftbukkit not showing up in FTP

Greetings all,
I'm having an issue where craftbukkit.jar is not showing up in FTP.
I've been researching for the past 2 hours and cannot find a problem similar to mine.
Basically, craftbukkit.jar isn't visible in the main directory of the server.
Iv'e searched every possible location, and have failed to find it. This is problematic as I'm trying to update the server to a dev build, and despite downloading the devbuild and renaming it, it doesn't work as the 1.4.7 craftbukkit.jar is still existing. I've made sure the files aren't hidden, and have tried numerous ftp clients to see if something was just messing up. I even want as far as to downloading an automatic update for bukkit, changed it to a dev build, and still, it hasn't worked.
I have access to SSH, but it's linux. And, unfortunately for me - I have no idea how to use a command based OS. If someone can lead me in the right directions as to where I can find the .jar file, or how to update the server through ssh, that'd be great.

Is your sever offline?

 

When trying to apply the update, I turned the server off, yes.
If you mean cracked, no.

 

theres a large chance that the host is blocking you from updating said jar, though. ive seen this on quite a few hosts.
