ruan in #bukkitdev mentioned "the plugin bay", which gave me the idea for this:

My question is, can I use the Bukkit logo on that parody site with attribution at the bottom? I'm happy to take it down immediately or make any modifications if needed.

[09:39:49] <blha303> http://thepluginbay.blha303.com.au is this copyright infringement for bukkit in any way?
[09:42:56] <h0us3cat> remove the illegal links and yu are fine :/
    [09:43:22] <blha303> ... what illegal links?
    [09:43:28] <blha303> you're gonna have to specify
    [09:44:22] <h0us3cat> piratebay...
    [09:44:43] <LaxWasHere> ThePluginBay.com
[09:44:47] <blha303> that's where i got the design from. i'm using their css, i can't do it without attribution
    [09:45:03] <blha303> and it isn't illegal o.o
[09:45:08] <h0us3cat> then make it yourself
[09:45:22] <h0us3cat> the content on there is
[09:45:23] <blha303> that's the whole point though. a parody of thepiratebay
[09:45:34] <h0us3cat> and there a minecraft clients on there
[09:45:47] <h0us3cat> and you link to it
[09:46:12] <blha303> i link to the pirate bay because i'm using their content. same as the link to bukkit.org, because i'm using their logo
[09:46:41] <h0us3cat> sure but you also link to illegal clients of minecraft
    [09:46:57] <h0us3cat> Not realy nice
[09:47:02] <blha303> no, thepiratebay links to them. so does google. if i link to google, is that illegal?
[09:47:32] <h0us3cat> sigh you know what i mean
[09:48:17] <blha303> no, i really don't. i'm using the pirate bay's content and bukkit's content, both with attribution. both of these things would fall under fair use in the US anyway.
[09:48:55] <h0us3cat> oh you are following us rules on a se domain now? lol
[09:49:25] <blha303> no, there's no issue with the pirate bay's design, it's kopimi
[09:49:38] <blha303> my question was whether i could use bukkit's logo
[09:49:53] <h0us3cat> i know its not illegal but its not nice f you linking to it
[09:50:05] <blha303> 'not nice' i still have no idea what you mean by that
[09:50:23] <h0us3cat> your brain must be very small
[09:50:24] <blha303> someone else jump in here and comment
[09:50:41] <blha303> now you're resorting to insults. why?
[09:51:04] <h0us3cat> because you dont get something simple
[09:51:27] <blha303> you don't think i should link to a site whose design i've copied?
    [09:51:35] <h0us3cat> no
[09:51:58] <blha303> ok. your objection is noted.
[09:52:18] <ruan> TPB trying to enforce copyright would be funny
[09:52:26] <h0us3cat> I think you should not link to sites where illegal clients can be found
[09:52:35] <ruan> they've done it before, but only because of a severe case
    [09:52:36] <blha303> so i can't link to google either.
[09:52:43] <h0us3cat> and yes i know google does to
[09:52:55] <blha303> yeah, they sued a copyright lobby for copying their layout without asking, cos that's just hilarious
[09:52:56] <h0us3cat> but google is not made for that specific
    [09:52:59] <h0us3cat> tpb is
[09:54:43] <h0us3cat> If you did something like "Design inspired by tpb" it will be better imo
[09:55:18] <blha303> or i can link directly to a site that i support
[09:56:06] <h0us3cat> Well like this it feels like you support illegal content
[09:58:04] <h0us3cat> And i dont think you do?
[09:58:15] <blha303> i support the pirate bay. and the pirate party, of which i'm a member.
    [09:58:15] <blha303> a founding member
[09:58:21] <blha303> was kinda hoping for one of the bukkit devs to weigh in on this. the only question is whether or not i can use bukkit's logo, as there's no terms of use for it on the website
    [09:59:43] <blha303> *bukkit staff
[09:59:43] <blha303> so many ping timeouts.... is a server down?
[09:59:51] <h0us3cat> If you only know what staff you need huh
[10:00:19] <h0us3cat> There is only one that realy cares about this kind of stuff
    [10:01:01] <blha303> am i supposed to guess?
[10:01:40] <LaxWasHere> esper getting attacked?
[10:01:40] <h0us3cat> you are now yes
    [10:01:58] <h0us3cat> because i dont support pirates
[10:02:20] <blha303> wow, ok. why bother saying anything
[10:02:46] <h0us3cat> Well this is what you get in real life
[10:03:00] <h0us3cat> you asked for a opinion you got one
    [10:03:03] <blha303> lukegb: can i use the bukkit logo on a fansite: http://thepluginbay.blha303.com.au ?
    [10:04:56] <blha303> mbaxter?
    [10:05:59] <h0us3cat> stop spamming the ops ;)
[10:07:16] <blha303> today i learned that one message is spamming
    [10:07:21] <blha303> thanks so much
    [10:07:22] <blha303> now be quiet
[10:07:51] <h0us3cat> you asked like 4 times for a op in less then 30 inutes
    [10:07:58] <h0us3cat> i count that as spam
[10:13:59] <blha303> oh, ruan, you were the one who had the idea for The Plugin Bay
    [10:14:15] <blha303> o/
    [10:19:06] <ruan> \o

Well, it's... I don't know. OK, it isn't parody, but the attribution's pretty clear. I just wanted to check with the staff.

It would be preferred if you didn't use our logo on your plugin search site.

Thank you for your understanding. :)

Sure. The search box points to the plugins.bukkit.org search, but I can change the logo.

I also don't recommend associating yourself with thepiratebay, I'm not saying I don't use it, but if you're not hosting torrents and/or pirated content, don't affiliate yourself. Not a safe move imho.

How do you mean, safe move? If someone comes to thepluginbay.com without having heard of The Pirate Bay, surely they aren't going to understand why I made this little website that does exactly the same thing as plugins.bukkit.org without a link to the original site for reference. I made the link point to a TPB proxy too, so casual visitors don't get attacked by their ISPs (hypothetically) for just accessing the front page. I'm probably overthinking this, but I'm trying to be courteous.

It's 100% up to you, but even if you spoofed their design, for Bukkit, using their link (no matter how many proxies you put it behind), is seemingly strange. While I get why you would, I find it unnecessary. (Almost as if TPB is the one making your site, when in fact you're just spoofing theirs)
