PHP&MYSQL Player authentification

  1. I plan to open a up a own Server sometime later this year and i been wondering if it was possible to create a simple system to authentificate users that go online on the server with the account they might or might not created on a webpage. The plan is to have a new user be in a guest group till he authentificates himself with an account on the webpage, to gain more rights on the server.
So for the webpage registration: When an account is created a random 8char long string is created that the user can use together with a command when logging onto the server. Once the minecraft account is associated with the user account they would be able to handle certain features without having to go onto the server(iconomy transactions, managing their shop or send messages to players). As of now i can provide a more or less working webpage side, i still need to code all the authentification stuff and might need some help, but im totally lost on the minecraft side(been learning java, but havent managed anything mentionable yet).

There could also be a version that uses a whitelist, meaning no one can join the main server untill authentificated using a smaller server, that would require a whitelist that uses a db, which i dont know if possible.

Im sure this might be a nice addition to any server and im willing to provide the webhosting for it, Peace.
