Lost Connection in console, what does it mean? (Now even more wierdness!)

    I constantly see a random ip address along with "Lost Connection" in my console.
    Is this something I should be worried about, or is it just something that Bukkit or Minecraft does internally?

    Any ideas why those ip addresses show up or why they are followed by "lost connection"?

    I'm using CraftBukkit Dev 1.4.5-R0.1 (Build #2478)

    it means they got disconnected or tried to join and it took to long

    But do you see how many there are? This happens continuously. I bet it happens hundreds or maybe thousands of times in a day. It's a continuous stream of ip addresses and lost connections.
    It can't be good, right?

    If I had to guess based on that log sample, since the ip is the same someone probably is trying to connect or possibly auto-connect and they are failing.

    I wouldn't worry about it. If it bothers you you could block their IP from the server using a firewall/iptables (it depends on your server setup)

    Keep in mind when you host a Minecraft server you are offering a publicly available service to the entire Internet; that means sometimes you'll see weird things like this.

    I highly doubt it's hurting your server, based on that log sample.

    No, no i had that same think coming up on the hosting service panel and i just ignored it because probably it is the console ip but im not sure. But dont block it because you will not know what will happen.

    From what it looks like, it seems to be the same person, based on IP.
    It doesn't really affect your server whatsoever.

    One option is to ban the ip "50.23.30.168" use /banip 50.23.30.168 if you dnt know the person.

    or just get an antibot plugin. theres a bunch of them in plugin section. good luck!

    Here is yet another bit of wierdness. This comes up a few dozen times a day too.
    Any idea what all of those block characters might be?
    (Also you can see that that odd IP address is still there)

    That is caused by Minestatus.net checking if you're server is still up every 5 minutes. (The 50.23.30.168 ip)
