So far as I can tell, that was it.
I removed that color code and have been stable for about ~7 hours.

When you had crashed, you should have seen a crash report. I want to see that along with the corresponding server.log.

I need the full server.log up to and including the crash, as well as the crash report. If you can provide both from when you tried without plugins as well, that would be swell.

The crash reports should actually be in a crash-reports folder in the same folder as your craftbukkit.jar.

Since this is a hosted server, they will be using some sort of control panel. I wonder if there is some sort of auto restart feature they are using. If it detects the server offline, it restarts your server. Since it seems that a nifty coloured MOTD causes some checks to detect the server as offline, I wonder if these control panels aren't doing the same thing, and thus "crashing" your server.

    This is certainly possibly.
Every time the server would "crash"/"restart", I would instantly receive an e-mail from my host's automated system stating that the server was unresponsive and was automatically restarted. >_>

    Dear TIMZ,

This message is to inform you that your Minecraft service at 108.61.50.202:25565 stopped responding. This service was restarted automatically.

    Thank you for choosing Branzone.com!

CraftBukkit doesn't crash without a crash report or a full on Java crash since 1.3.x. Contact your host, or look through your control panel options and see if there isn't something in there to auto restart your server.

If it happens when you're playing on your server and its clearly responding well, its a host issue.

I'll submit a ticket with them tomorrow.
If it's the case of whatever script their using (to check the online status of a server) getting thwarted by the color codes, it'd be great if they could fix it, I rather enjoyed the aesthetic appearance of those.

    That makes sense. Thanks TnT.

Funny, I recall a certain server list having this very same issue. <_< >_>

Please let me know if that's the case. Hilariously that made a lot of the server lists I'm on have the same problem, you aren't alone.

Alright, I think I finally got to the bottom of this. When I logged onto my server today, I was greeted with a message that claimed that the CraftBukkit I'm currently using is broken.

No... that has nothing to do with this problem. We occasionally mark builds as broken. In this case, this build was marked broken because of the lack of Wither Skeleton's spawning. Nothing to do with your server restarting - that's likely due to the server management software you are using. See my previous posts in this thread.

Yes, when I updated it was still restarting. :/

Nothing in CraftBukkit will actually restart your server. It would have to be your server management software.

I fixed it today. I updated all the plugins, now everything works fine.

My host did confirm that there is a script for Tcadmin that queries the server every five minutes and automatically restarts the server if it comes up as 'online'.
The color codes are causing the server to appear offline, which makes the server restart when the script queries it.

They're going to try and contact Tcadmin for a fix, but offered to disable the script during the intermission. I've opted to just not use the color codes until I know it can be done without issue.
