Does Minecraft chat support tabs? (for lining stuff up)

I have a highscore list on my server and I'm trying to line up the columns.

I'm talking about tabs as in /t

Is there any way?

You can however add characters to line up text.

Characters used:
'`'
'\''
' '
'\"'

Or if you want the characters to be less invasive then you can replace:
"\"" with ChatColor.BOLD + " "
"\'" with ChatColor.BOLD + "`"

The problem with that is in my case, the first column is player names, so they vary in length.

I tried adding spaces at runtime, based on the length of the player name, but that only partially lines it up. The problem is that not every character is the same width in pixels.

I don't see an easy way to the determine the length of a name in pixels :/
