So yes 1.3.1 is out and we are all waiting for the recommended build from the amazing Bukkit staff.

While we wait for bukkits to update i want to prepare for the update - Back up the worlds etc. My server is currently being ran on Xenon Servers and i'm curious of what i need to back up and what to leave alone.

I'm guessing i need to backup the following -

    World, Nether and End worlds.
Plugins - will have to update then individually.
    Server properties
    Whitelist.
    Banned Ips and Players.
    Ops.

I still have files around the index of my server such as bukkit.yml, a file called lib, A file called Bukkit_Update, Craftbukkit.jar, server.log.1.lck and a few worldedit.logs. Do i still need them if i'm backing up the plugins/updating them?

Now when it comes to updating the server i'm guessing i ether go into my folder called Bukkit_Update and find the 1.3 recommended build and start it or i download the recomended build, delete all the Craftbukkit.jar and upload it to my server and then run the server.

Please correct my if I'm wrong and give me constrictive criticism as i have no clue of what i about to be in for.

    Cheers,

I just make daily backups regardless, never a bad idea to backup stuff. To update i basically just drag, drop, replace the craftbukkit.jar and then restart. Usually nothing goes wrong...

i would backup the complete server..

    then remove everything (everything)

then start craftbukkit, let it generate all neccesary files, stop your server, edit the server.properties, especially levelname. (i dont know if u want to keep your 1.2 worlds)
then delete map (world) world. startup again and let it generate a new world with your name

then start adding (up to date?) plugins
    .........
oh tbh, thats how im going to do it :) (besides that i am working on a spawn in vanilla on a private server)

Ok thanks for the replys. My plan is to blackup what i said above. Download and REPLACE the jar and then start the server. Everything should then replace it self and update. I back up my server a few times amonth. Kinda hard at times being 14GB and all :L

    Thanks for the help guys,
