There are no words for how useful a plugin that does nothing but disable PvP within x blocks of the spawn would be. If somebody could make one (or point me to one, I have searched to no avail), I'd be much obliged.
you can define a region with worldguard and restrict pvp there. it's quite easy to do. there are tutorial videos on youtube and a good wiki.
