Can't keep up! Did the system time change or is the server overloaded?

So I've been testing a dedicated server running Bukkit and a number of plugins and I'm having issues.

The dedicated server specs are as follows:

    • AMD Athlon™ II X4 Quad-Core,
      4x 2.3 GHz
    • 12 GB DDR3-RAM
    • 2x 1,500 GB SATA II-HDD (running in RAID)
    • java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode)
    • Ubuntu Server 64bit 10.04LTS
    • bukkit: 1597

Once 10+ players join we begin to get the following spammed over and over in the console:-

02:45:50 [WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?
02:45:55 [WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?

With 20+ players the server begins to lag horribly.

    Plugins

Minequery, iConomy, BorderGuard, NoCheat, PlgWarp, FalseBookCart, RawcriticsOreObfuscationPluginSpout, MobDisguise, FalseBookCore, Votifier, VoxelSniper, WorldGuard, OKSpamSecurity, MultiHome, AutoAnnouncer, RegionClaim, Multiverse-Core, WorldEdit, PermissionsEx, Spout, CommandBook, FalseBookBlock, ChatManager, FalseBookExtra, FalseBookIC, mcMMO, Statistician, LWC, Register, Burning Creative Suite, Citizens, VanishNoPacket, HawkEye.

CPU usage fluctuates but generally looks like this

    Cpu0 : 32.9%us, 3.1%sy, 0.0%ni, 63.9%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
    Cpu1 : 21.4%us, 3.4%sy, 0.0%ni, 75.2%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
    Cpu2 : 36.8%us, 5.7%sy, 0.0%ni, 57.5%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
    Cpu3 : 27.2%us, 12.9%sy, 0.0%ni, 58.6%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 1.3%si, 0.0%st

    Memory usage

    10-20% of total

Surely these specs should be more than sufficient to handle 20 players?

Can't seem to rule out what could be causing the issue, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Basically lag. If it isn't your cpu or ram, it might be your internet...

Your CPU is not fast enough

Well you do have a good processor but like he said, a Intel Core i7 is much better. But the problem is probably not from your computer specs but more because of your "Internet Connection". You probably have a bandwich of like 7MB which allow you to download ~800 Kb/s and upload ~ 80 Kb/s which is probably not enough

My server does the same thing even when nobody is on. It's nothing. I think it just does that to agrivate you. Either that, or it is way too sensitive.

Yeah, it is your CPU for sure.

Looks like all of your cores are maxed.

CPU usage on all cores fluctuates between 30-50%. Thats hardly maxed. The server is hosted in a Data centre on 100MBit connectivity.

Deserves a fix. Definitely. I have Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB DDR1 and ATA-100 HDD... and no lags when 15 players online! ;)

I am not sure if this is correct or not, but I know somebody who fixed this with a faster hard drive... Anyone able to confirm whether or not the HDD could be an issue? :)

Sorry to bump a message from January, but I am getting this as well - its spamming it BIG TIME to my console and with only ten people on a bukkit server hosted with these specs:

    3072 MB RAM

» 48 Players Recommended, But Can Change As You Please

    » Multicraft Control Panel

    » Unlimited Hard Drive Space

    » Unlimited Bandwidth

    » 100Mbps/1000Mbps Full Port Speeds

My host told me its just a stupid message I could probably ignore, but I have started to get MASSIVE lag spikes even with only two people on. I have started unintstalling some of my plugins to alleviate pressure. But I know a server with only 2gb ram on the same hoster that runs with the same plugins... more in fact.

    Bah! So frustrating!

  13. Anyone thenk that maybe when your actual system time changes, but I run a intel i5 Quad core 2.8Ghz overclocked to 3.4 16gb Ram Sata 3 Gb/s 500 GB HDD running SQL I get it even when no one is one lol 12mb down .64mb up has had max so far 12 people minimual lag only because i play on the same machine as my server lol so many variables I dont think no one will ever pinpoint the cause of this message lol
