    Hi,

the players on the server I am running are from various different countries, and some of their languages use foreign, non-ASCII characters. Support for those was added in Minecraft 1.2, if I remember right, but ceased to work as soon as I reinstalled Bukkit 1.2.4-R1.0 on my server after having run vanilla Minecraft for a while. Any special characters rendered in the "alternative" Minecraft font simply disappear from chat once sent. They do show up in the server terminal, but Bukkit seems to filter them out when forwarding chat to clients. I have been searching for a solution to this problem or at least whether anyone has the same issue (plugins and forum posts), but I have not had any success.

I personally consider this a bug, but if this is a new security feature of Bukkit, I would like to suggest a configuration setting in bukkit.yml (or wherever that option would belong) to allow foreign characters (or even the ยง character, just for fun!).

In case this is caused by my system (I doubt it though): my server is running on CrunchBang Linux 10, Bukkit version is 1.2.4-R1.0 as mentioned before. The issue occurs even without any plugins enabled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's bukkit, or might it be a plugin being a bit messed up?

As I said, the problem occurs even when I completely disable all plugins.

I also have this problem. I ran a clean install of Bukkit and it didn't work. I also ran a vanilla server and it DID work. The console puts up ?? when I try anything Unicode. The only thing I came up with was the limitations of the commad prompt, but since DefMenge is using Linux, I am not so sure. What I am sure of is it worked for a day around 1.2 release and hasn't worked since.

    I am running Windows 7 64-bit.
