on linux yes, windows on the other hand is a bit trickier ;)

sure XAMPP is an easy one stop web server but it certainly isn't production capable

What idiot would run a server on windows (that's asking for trouble).

Highly unstable for game server running and as high resource usage. Linux is so easy after learning basic commands

  6. Saying that is kind of funny because the millions of websites who run asp and are on windows havent had any problems, however apache and linux are still my personal preference as i only use php for web development

Did I say it was unstable for running websites ? I think not.

  8. No but you came accross like "asking for trouble", it made me think that you were trying to say that windows servers were not secure and good enough to be run as servers.

There fine for running web servers no problems with that, it's just game server on windows ?

I'm going to have to disagree and side with tha d0ctor on this one. I've ran a Ragnarok Online server off my personal WinServ2k3 machine for almost 6 yrs with little-to-no problems. Windows is just as capable of running any server just as good as any Linux system is, provided you have one of the "Server" editions and disable any unneeded daemons/services. I'm not saying windows is preferable, but is definitely capable. My friend's father works in administration for Dell and would agree. Also, Macs run Unix at the core level, and they're shit for servers... So, it's basically the same concept for Windows: Remove the "extra" stuff and it all runs the same. </rant>

  12. I agree, but at a performance level/cost level, windows just isnt worth it...

    A windows dedi/vps costs an extra £15 a month.

But i do agree it can be nearly as fast as linux

True, Windows VPSs tend to cost more, but that cost is usually tethered on due to usability. Most people who own a computer own a Windows machine, and therefore feel more comfortable using Windows. And the difference between using an SSH client and Remote Desktop is incomparable. I agree that Linux is better overall, however my previous post was just to note that Windows is more than capable, and frankly I'm sick of 'Nux users trashing on Win. Personally, I use both equally on a day-to-day basis.

  14. I understand what your saying, I just wanna say that I wasnt putting windows down, I use both too regulary.
