    MOVED TO DEV BUKKIT:
    News

    v2.4.2 Released - 9/24/2011
See the change log for details.
Everyone using PermissionsEx, Essentials, or anything else besides the regular permissions plugin or PermissionsBukkit should add or change this in their config under the Global section:
    LegacyPermissions: true
As of 2.4.0 the bPermissions plugin is supported directly.
As of 2.3.7 the PermissionsBukkit plugin is supported directly.
This support is not done through the new built in Permissions that bukkit provides, because there is no way to get a players group using the built in methods. However, by supporting this directly, you can now use the new permissions system while still keeping Residence, and not having to use old permissions at all anymore.

    Residence Signs (by KarnEdge)

NOTE: All Residence usage information has been moved to the wiki!

    About:
Residence is different from most protection plugins in that it aims for the users to be able to protect their own homes without having to bother the admin to do it. Residence has support for a variety of different protection types including preventing movement through areas, all of which can be configured by the land owner, and limited by the admin.
    Features:
    Features (open)

    • Allows players to define protected areas for themselves.
    • Individual permissions for each protected area. Land owner can give / deny permissions globally or to other specific players.
    • Different permissions per land include: move, build, use, pvp, fire, teleport, monsters spawn, damage prevention
    • Support for group permissions on protections.
    • Multi-World support.
    • Teleport system to allow users to teleport to residences.
    • Collision detection system to prevent residences from overlapping.
    • Limits to protected size can be set up by the admin.
    • Limits to number of protected areas per player can be set.
    • Two ways to select land including using the select command, or using a item to select 2 points.
    • Messages when you enter / leave a residence. (customizable)
    • Land "leasing" system which requires users to renew the lease on their protection every X number of days or loose the protection. (off by default, see config file)
    • Recursive Sub-zoning. Create zones within zones, and then zones within those zones...
    • TONS of configuration for admins. Customize every single flag that players can or cannot use in the config file, based on their permissions group.
    • (Optional) IConomy support, can set up cost per X number of blocks protected.
    • (Optional) Permissions support.
    • In-game help / commands descriptions

    • Added "piston" flag.
    v2.3.4

    • Fixed global "container" flag bug.
    • Fixed some NPE's related to explosions.
    • Added /resload command to load the save file after you make changes to it (UNSAFE, as it does not save residences first, and so you may loose new residences that were just created)
    v2.2
    • Added per residence Blacklist/Ignorelists that will allow you to specify certain block types to be ignored from residence protections, or unable to be placed in residences.
    • Added Server owned land, use /resadmin server <residence> to change the owner to "Server Owned"

    v2.1
    • BOSEconomy support.
    • Essentials Economy support.
    • RealShop Economy support.

    • /res check [residence] [flag] <player> command, this command evaluates if <player> is affected by [flag] at [residence]. You can leave off <player> and it will use your name.
    • Added a LeaseAutoRenew config option, that will cause leases to automatically renew so long as the player has the money to do so. Note that, if economy is disabled this doesn't work, as there would be no point to leases. Needs Testing! :)
    • Global FlagPermission config section, that allows you to give permission to use a flag to all groups, useful for the build / move / use flag that you almost definitely want everyone to have access to. Flags under each individual group will overrule these.
    • You can now set a limits on how deep or how high protections can go into the group, using each groups MinHeight and MaxHeight settings.
    • /res select sky, and /res select bedrock commands, these auto adjust to the above mentioned MinHeight and MaxHeight settings, so it won't select into a area you can't protect.
    • Rent system implemented.
    • Many bug fixes, including proper creeper explosion prevention now. Also, fixed some bugs when renaming residences.
    • New healing flag.
    • The monsters flag has been split up into "animals" and "monsters" now.
    • New Developer API, including custom Bukkit events.

@bekvon Sorry for asking this. I was considering making a public server. Is there a way to build well building districts. Lets call is housing zones! woot that's a better name.

Is there a way to create a housing zone as the admin where all players can easily build on?

I was thinking build a public server and do the following:
    - main roads and subway protected
    - 50x50 max lot sizes
    - maybe a max depth of like 50 but unlimited height

I wish there was a plugin where lets say I generated the world. I could like select a 1000 x 1000 land and it would auto sub divide the land with plots hehe. That would make life so easy :)

  8. Sounds like Towny to me??

    Kane

    Towny I recalled was buggy

  10. Every plugin is buggy. Nonetheless we use Towny and Residences since a long time without much hassle. And the new Towny devs are awesome and know what they are doing. They fixed up a lot!

    TOAST7312

Also, town only allows an individual to buy an ENTIRE CHUNK. Too much if you ask me. This is good in combination with Towny.

Also, @bekvon, would it be possible to get MultiCurrency support on this? I was thinking of switching over to this but apparently not a lot of people support it. :/ Dunno why; there's info on how to hook into it in the OP.

    Also I apologize if this has been asked previously, but I don't really have the time to read through 79 pages. >_<;

Hey for some reason the cost per block isn't set to what it's suppost to be. I set cost per block 1250.00 and max limit is 16x16 so it should cost a total of 20k. yet for some odd reason it only charges 205. what's going on and how do I fix this? thanks in advance.

Definitely a fan of this plugin. I just started using it and besides my server end issues I have not found a single bug.

I do have a question though. Is there a way that I can set admins to bypass all limitations on Residence? I want to be able to make basic houses and sell them to people when my server goes public. I hope I didn't miss anything when I was researching it all since I only saw two permissions nodes and I currently am having trouble editing my config files. My host needs to fix the issue.

Any feedback would be awesome. If you don't have this FOR PERMISSIONS and not in the config.yml, then I suggest this for easier use for admins. XD

Two ways that I can see. From the wiki if you want them to be able to modify OTHER PEOPLE's residences:
and if you only want to allow certain people to change ALL flags on their residences, go to the config.yml and look for FlagPermissions in several places. You can set the Global ones to all true, and everyone can do this, or you can set it under a specific group (admin) and keep certain ones false for other groups.

At least that is what I get from the wiki?
Check here and here for more info.

Every time someone sets a flag on a group like: Member
It sets the flag on the group in a lowercase sense: member

Therefore, it doesn't even block the group in the residence. Even if you spell it Member it makes it member... Could you please fix this?

Also my permissions is * and I still can't edit other peoples residences, why is that?

Is anyone else having problems with getting the blacklist to work in conjunction with BukkitPerms?

@bekvon - it doesnt seem to read the group names properly anymore, as it used to do perfectly with Permissions 3.x.

What a fantastic plugin! Can't imagine what our server would do without it :)

I have ran in to a slight oversight though - there doesn't seem to be a way to prevent the use of Bone Meal. I have a few areas where I don't want players just throwing down wild grass all over the place.

    Keep up the good work!

I have installed Residence as a Land Management system as it seems the best one out there but I am having a problem where players are not able to build on the land they purchase. I want it so they can only build on their land not in the wild. They do not get the message that they do not have permission but when they place something it instantly returns to their inventory. I know it is one of the settings in the config but don't know which one.

Guests by default have no permissions outside residences (as in they cannot do anything in the world) however Id like for them to be able to build on my free-build areas, I've set flags for build/use/container on my freebuild residence but guests can't use it. Any idea what I might be missing?

    Simon Welker

I'm having heavy issues with residence on my server, say: It sometimes weirdly "crashes", and saves that ERRORED.yml. This is actually a fix I asked for before, but well, the thing is:
I do /reload on the server, without ANY res.yml being in the folder. There's only res.yml.bak and res.yml-ERRORED.yml. And doing textdiff on that two files with meld (unix tool) reveals that they are NOT different in any way.
I now used kwalify to check the yml for correctness, and well, it reveals that the problems were several ' characters in residence and area names (that cancelled strings too early or opened strings where none would be, because YAML will interpret them as such characters). I would LOVE if you could implement a possibility to blacklist such "bad characters", or somehow escape them? It's really bugging me, I'm removing them all manually now, and well, it's gonna happen all over again if someone uses such a character for his res -.-

    Thanks in advance :)

v2.3.9 Released, see changelog for details :)

I think you may have figured out what I have failed to figure out for a long time now heh... I added a filter to filter out bad characters from Residences names in v2.3.9 that was just released. If your good with RegEx expressions, you can modify the filter yourself in the config, by adding under the Global section:

    ResidenceNameRegex: '[^a-zA-Z0-9\\-\\_]'

then you can modify it to whatever you want it to filter out :) Thanks for alerting me to this, as its been a problem since day 1.

To all of the above, who mentioned not being able to do stuff as admins, you need to use /resadmin instead of /res when doing admin stuff.

You could probbably set up one big residence, and then set the "subzone" flag on the whole residence to true. It should then let anyone come and setup a subzone within that zone, and do whatever they want with it. You could subzone the roads and stuff ahead of time, so that no one can claim on them. Hope that helps :)

Ehh, 16x16 is 256, and then 256 * 1250 = 320k, not 20k... But anyway, I tested it and it appears to calculate correctly for me. Check that you set it for the right group, and that you set the right thing.
    Code:
    Groups:
         <groupname>:
              Economy:
                   BuyCost: 1250

Ehh, interesting, both of you have the same problem, and it looks like its blowing up inside of java itself somehow, but my best guess is its caused by some weird character that is in a Enter Message or Leave Message for a residence. I think I should probably add a filter of some kind on that...
EDIT: I just added a filter in the development version of the plugin, you can try that out, however it wont change existing enter / leave messages, so you may still have to track down the offending message somehow.
EDIT2: Nevermind, it will filter all of them on load now :)

Got it fixed now :) Missed that in the 1060 update...

Ehh, not having any issues with group names, but I added an "Permissions Group" string of text that's printed out in /res limits now. That should show you the actual permissions group as being reported by residence. If everything is working right, it should be the same as "Residence Group" which is the actual group in the config.yml that is being used for you. Hopefully that can help you troubleshoot :)

It should still work, as whenever Residence takes in a group from Permissions, it automatically de-capitalizes it as well. Il look into just to make sure though.

Ive tested vert and expand and they all work fine for me, is it a permissions thing? like they are getting a no permission message? your using "/res select vert" right?

I downloaded and all of a sudden, all my admins lost resadmin rights. (We use the permission node "residence.*")

Is there any way to disable the server printouts?
Like on my server console it's just littered with :
    [Residence] - Rent Expirations checked!
    [Residence] - Saved Residences...

What version were you coming from? Also what permissions plugin?

Not at the moment, but wont be hard to do, il try to add it for next release.
