    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

Well, that's good news. I was beginning to worry he'd leave it at 1.6.4.

haha Fohdeesha I was going to post that too. In any case, we should always expect many updates in the future for minecraft. No need to wait, simply occupy your time with other games or play the recommended build.

    Good luck Bukkit!

So, again, I just updated our server and we have no problems with chunks not loading and the (admittedly single) map I created has worked just fine.

The bugs thus might affect SOME, and those bugs are really hard to find in quick releaseable-or-not testing.

edit: Since some correlate the missing chunk-bug with 64 bit OS. My server is running latest Snow Leopard, 32 bit kernel, 64 bit Java 6 SE.

After you created the map, did you put it in your hand and try to use it? that's when it starts spewing outofboundsexpection errors.

Yes, as I wrote in the earlier post, I explored it to the edges. Switching back'n'forth between the map and items. Rode minecarts and boats. Threw it on the floor, had another player pick it up and test, and then give it back.

It's very likely there are severe bugs that affect a lot of people, but it's also very likely that it works just fine for a lot of people and they have no reason to post about it. Thus it looks like "everyone" has problems and people like me hold on updating the server for a whole day completely unnecessarily .. :)

i am not a bukket employee (bukkit has no employee's they dont get paid for their work, i dont work for mojang either. But the licence minecraft is provided under prevents ANYONE aside from mojang themselves from distributing their software. If i were to provide you with a copy, that is distribution, and breaches their agreement. the EULA has nothing to do with it here. If you run a server you should know the importance of frequent backups.... without them you are screwed. I have a legal EULA with mojang that allows me to get the file form them. If you link to mojang's copyright here, the mod's will remove your link, if you do it enough, you will be banned. If your government charges you for blank media that is between you and them. I am located in the US and as such copyright law applys to me. Mojang bassed in Swedan and any applicable copyright law applies there as well. Currently mojang has not persued anyone for piracy (and they have stated that they do not intend to do so in most cases).

When you bought the game you agreed (on one of the screens) that you are paying for the finished product, and that the betas are provided as a convienence and to assist in beta testing. No one said you HAVE to report the bugs, and no one said you HAVE to use the beta's. If you are not happy with the quality of the (BETA) release then dont use it. Wait for the full release expected on 11/11/11

I'm not one to join in on the bash fest on forums but this one I feel compelled to. Fohdeesha's statements are correct - if their team loaded up the 1.6 and gave it a whirl they would have spotted many of these issues and fixed them without us being the wiser. This build is basically unworkable - bucket even agrees on this notion.
Now if the issue was something silly like furnaces using an extra coal or not being able to place blocks on foliage blocks - this is a simple coding error - one that I my self would have overlooked before releasing it to millions. This would also be OK under the Beta handle since I would expect these small issues to pop up - reported - then fixed.
What those who rail agents the people who are pissed do not understand - this is a pretty unusable build chalked full of errors. This is completely unprofessional and unforgiveable mistake to do - not test your software before releasing it to the public. Public will provide some leniency to a 'Indie Game' developer in these matters but it's no longer Notch - it's Mojang. It's no longer a part-time job - he's made over a million. This is not something most indie gamers can claim.
So please keep the self righteous and misguided notions and rationalize this better. If I produced a hit selling game I would treat it like a job - not a hobby. As a job I would feel obligated to provide workable updates and if they are not workable I would start fixing said problems NOW - and not wait till tomorrow, or when I'm done playing a game. That level of unprofessionalism is what drives people to be angry over this sort of mess - which I might add happens time and time again with updates and Minecraft.
So yes - this is a game still in beta - and yes he has accepted money for the game already. But I fully expect the designer of the game to be more concerned about it then it's players. I have beta tested many games - and sure some updates completely fubar it up - but they fix it ASAP while not making the same mistake twice. Time and time again these makes are made by Mojang. I would expect anyone rational wanting to make a future out of a gaming product to start testing said product before releasing broken patches.

FYI, I am employed in a help desk position, at a prominent technology company. We regularly support buggy code that is released as 'production'. In this case nothing he has released to date is to be considered 'production quality' if you are using it as such, that is your fault. Regarding chunks not loading on SMP, they seem to work OK #kinda laggy# on some of the 1.6.4 servers i have joined so far. If you read the server download page, they expressly state that "there is some (very buggy) testing going on)" and that it is in no way 'ready'. I have not seen many bug reports about SP mode, as it seems stable, it would appear that the focus is on SP mode for now, and SMP will be polished up before v1.0 on 11/11/11. Regarding the login issue being down for a week (it doesn't seem like it was that long but it may have been, i was busy working, and having a life outside of minecraft). Some things cannot be resolved quickly, iirc it was due to an issue regarding amazon's cloud service, it is VERY possible they were waiting for a support rep on their end to look into an issue, or that they had another employee working to resolve the issue. Also iirc the reason they attempted to move logins into the cloud was for salability because the current servers couldn't handle the load (so moving back to the old servers was not much of an option). If you get upset that their having fun while waiting on a fix, then might i suggest you get a life? sometimes there's not much you can do but wait. Buy your own NERF guns and have epic office wars while you wait for MC to come back up... Do you want them to be miserable and locked in a box because a (beta) service is down? Your suggestion that no one is working on anything and that all they do is goof off is pure speculation (have you actually been to their office?). I cant say that they aren't. but judging by the (very quickly) released point updates to resolve issues, they are busy trying to resolve bugs in not just minecraft but other products they intend to ship. Your basing your information off the updates you see on twitter and a personal blog from the creator.

According to the twitter of notch, he will head to the office tomorrow to fix the big bugs that update 1.6.4 caused.

Looking forward to the bukkit update!

I love the fact the only thing the 1.6.4 update says is:
"* Fixed 1.6.3 using more CPU despite it claiming to use less
    * Totally professional"

and neither of those are true in this version...

I don't think notch is making 1.6.5 my vanilla server is running stable no one complaining for last day 50+ online everything seems fine we should all just work with what the good, Notch gives us the games getting fixed at an amazing speed they are all doing a great job and you should be happy, Notch let us all preorder the game and become testers for it instead of complaining I'm sorry but no matter what you guys say we have no right to complain when the game is released and it still has bugs than we can complain right now the game is blazing threw Dev I been following since indev and I has to push my self backthan to buy it i loved classic and this was the next big step but i did this knowing this is indev nothing works lol same thing with alpha I sat there with my smp server with almost no features working no health no mobs doors didn't even work but I still got by and was happy.

If you think different I'm sorry but you shouldn't have bought, Minecraft you should be playing a game thats not finished yet they are blazing threw this process working hard and doing things a normal company would take 5+ years.

Wow...you post so much you are getting lost in your strings - you're drinking too much Red Bull. I did back up, but unlike you, I dont think I am above all, needing to belittle others to deal with my insecurity complex. So my reply was to help the other person you were so rude to - as I posted to him a link to 1.5 jar.

To be clear - read slowly without drinking Red Bull...Im not the original poster, I did do a back ups, I am offering help to the person you were being rude to, I gave him a link to 1.5.

Why do you act like you are a legal entity of Bukkit with such morale authority. If you cant offer something positive and constructive to the person needing help, why do you bother posting at all.

My link to jar 1.5 sits there on page 7 from yesterday like a sore thumb....might want to report me ... give you that morale authority you so desperately crave. When I hear from the moderators, I will know that a tiny little insect decided he was a poodle. I am looking forward to the complaint.

    Love your pic

    FLAME MOAR ALL! PLX PLX!
But seriously, I'm sure notch and his team are doing all they can to fix the bugs as fast as possible.
After all, they're quite a small team compared to quite a huge userbase.
Any logical thinking being might get the enlightment that their chances on finding bugs before releasing a new version are a LITTLE bit smaller than the users'... [creeper]
