    Multi Plugin Config GUI
(An easy to use interface for configuring your plugins without any effort!)
    How it started:
I was trying to make a very simple and intuitive interface for a friend of mine so he could change various settings for the Minecart Mania plugin without having to teach him how XML works, and it was him that proposed to make the GUI available to anyone, so i did. People started to use it and give feedback mostly positive and encouraging me to keep at it and improve it! Bugs keep appearing and i keep fixing them!
A few people asked if i plan on making another for other plugins and to their answer i point to my title! Yes more are coming and i will find the best way to have all GUIs i'll ever make in a simple, easy to use solution incorporating auto-updates, i promise i'll do my best for everyone to be happy and smiley!!

What it is in a sentence:
It is a separate tool that lets you configure the various settings needed to configure in a nice and worm GUI instead of manipulating text files.

    Features:
    • Handles configuration files for plugins!
    • Can access multiple configuration filesets (for multiple servers)!
    • Auto-Updates on startup!
    • Inside app changelog!
    • Selective Plugin support!
    • Options for app behaviour!
    • Full support in a 6 hour basis per day!
    • Export to Text for on-line hosts with no FTP!
    Planned Features:
    • Access to online servers with FTP protocol enabled!
    • Handling of .db files for plugins!
    • Extensive Graphical Interfaces for item list making!(Preview Available!,Some implemented!)
    • Inside application Feedback system for even faster help!
    • Backups for worlds and settings!
    • Bukkit installer and updater!
    • Plugins installer and updater!
    How to use it:
You can use this handy little tool just like any other windows app, simply download install and run it!! any requirements on your behalf will be explained to you during install (if any).
Simply point it at your plugins folder in the options menu for a saved in memory location of the files, or find the plugins directory through the direct menu at the start screen for diferent directories (thus servers) each time! After that tooltips are popping up at each control and explain each function! Always remember to SAVE your work as often as possible!!!
Soon there will be detailed documentation and small videos explaining everything in detail!
    Plugins currently supported by MPCGUI:
Do you know of any plugin that uses .XML files ???
would you like to see it supported in the GUI???
    Let me know!!!
    Post below!!!

    FAQ (open)
    FAQ :
Q: I get an error! "*.xml file not found"!
A: Just make sure you are pointing the gui at the right direction!
    "\YourServer\plugins\" is the right one.
Q: Why is the version number of the gui different then the version stated in this OP since the application auto updates?
A: There is a very tiny chance for me to have forgoten to change it:p , to be sure of the version you have go to the "Info" menu then click "About".
Q: There is a plugin that i use and i like very much, i would like to see it in the gui so it can be even more handy to use and manage, how do i do that?
A: First make sure the plugin uses .xml files for configuration, then simply post it here in the thread with a link and i will add it as soon as i can!

    Known Issues And News (open)
    Known Issues And News
There is a problem in the MMCore please be aware and act accordingly.

All the old users will lose the stored options cause of the new XML file but i guess there are not much of them to restore.
Also i can say that nothing like this will never happen again!
The XML file provides a great way to ensure user data at all times!
It is also what most likely will enable me to add the installer and updater in the GUI!
I am hoping that the system i am gonna be using is gonna be enough to support demand (if there is any), i am planning on monitor downloads and usage statistics to make sure that: a) i am meeting demand in the frequency of the maintenance of the system. b)To be on-top of problems when they arise to minimize downtime (or to eliminate it?).

I am also planning a few more features for the GUI in the coming two weeks, others in the TO DO list and others not, and you should soon expect a plugin from me soon :) !!!
Yes i am trying java out!! not much luck yet but i will get there...

There are a few things i would like feedback on and i would appreciate any effort!
1.Do you think a downloader and updater is in demand in this community?
2.Do you think there are good ones out there already and do you have any suggestions?
3.What is it that you would like to see in the GUI? anything at all!! it doesn't matter if it something about a plugin or anything at all! as long as it is community related!!

I really hope on some answers :)
Have a nice day and a great weekend!!
    Care to Help??? (open)
    I NEED SOME HELP!!!

I really want to include more plugins and i have a few on the grill but i found an obstacle, for the life of me i cannot imagine how the appearance should be!!!
I want it to be usable not only to someone that is a setting up a server from scratch and would like a wizard kind of run through but someone who is testing settings and has to reuse the GUI to be able to get to the setting they need to fast and easely!!
    Any ideas???
[IMG]Any amount of help is appreciated but not required!
    BUGS AND PROBLEMS POST HERE!!
    Posting Guidelines:
    • Please post the version of the GUI as stated by the GUI in the About window in the Info menu strip or in the main window title.
    • Please post a description of the bug (if it is a bug).
    • Please post the plugin you have trouble with and it's version if available.
    • Make Sure to check the changelog frequently to avoid silly situations.
I will be glad to get feedback on your thoughts about the GUI too!!!

And thus is the private message thread about something I don't care about.

Hey kids, don't ask plugin authors to deal with your shit, if you can't handle the response.

Hey self righteous pricks who shirk on their parental duties, don't let your kids on the internet if you can't handle them seeing four letter words.

    You are a selfish jerk.
This 'shit' is to help server mods, and we try to make configuration easy
if you dont care, you dont give a shit about your plugin users

    alron

Honestly? The truth? I made the plugin for myself. Not for any one else. Its at a release version of 0.4 (0.5 is half done). I picked XML because it is easy and doesn't barf on tabs. I released it because I wanted to use features from it in the other plugin I develop for.

My next version is bringing most all of the configuration options into in game configuration. Users shouldn't NEED to edit the config files by hand (unless they actually have the two braincells needed to edit a config file, and know how to read the comments, and actually parse what the comments are saying). Just be op, issue config commands. Done. If a user can't understand that they have to shut the server down to edit the config file, not my problem. If it comes down to it, I'll just force my plugin to keep a file-lock. Problem solved. Can't edit a locked file.

I really, honestly, just don't care about third party mods, apps, etc to my plugin (at this time). If people fork on github and do neat things, I'll happily merge their changes back into my main repo and give them props in the changelogs and the likes.

Instead of showing of your "skillz" with 4 letter words you could simply said "i don't care" and that would be it, and parents are preventing teir kids from using the greatest tool ever existed in the history of humanity just because there are people like you in it! i hope that makes you proud...
Long story sort, i don't want to deal with you at all!
you don't care once i don't care twice....
I feel sorry for you but i wont bother...
You made your point now go on back to whatever...
P.S. i doubt that you have what it takes to post the exact same post at your thread...
so your users can see YOU.

    Note for everyone.
I don't care what other people think, i do what i do cause i like doing things i like doing...
(that sounds like a bit like @alron , isn't it?) i wanted to help a friend that didn't speak english at all (i am from a very small town in Greece) so i made pretty pictures :) that's it! then i took the chance to learn some more coding and i keep doing that... if i need help i ask once nicely and i don't bother if there is no responce...
So far in this community i have learned a bizillion things and i got lots and lots of help from pretty much anyone i asked! It is a great experience and i won't let incidents like the one above to mess it up.

I am very sorry if any of the above unsettled you and i will do my best so this won't happen again!
    Regards

    @alron & @John Kapsis,
For what it is worth, I think both of your plugins are well done. You both seem to have caught the bug to develop and create things to help others. While I have not used either of your plugin/programs, I have looked at them closely and appreciate what both of you have done. Both of you have created something that others find useful and necessary to have. Ok... enough of that... don't want to stroke either of your egos too much. :)

Now that I am off my soap box, just agree that each of you enjoy helping, but in this disagreement and defense of each of your own work, things got heated. Please just calm down, step back, take a deep breath, and know that people respect what both of you do to help the community we are all part of.

    Enjoy,

    Hello!

First of all, thanks alot for this nifty piece of software!
I like it alot but I am having a rather irritating problem.

I try to change de "Default Speed" setting for MinecartMania, and it saves allright, but as soon as i start my server up, that setting is reverted to its original state. This might not have anything to do with your GUI, but I thought I'd start looking for answeres here.

what config version is saved by this configurator, and what config file version is it reverted to?

    John Kapsis

There was an update in the MMcore.xml and that is likely to have caused this, but in any case i have asked for a changelog from afforess so we will know by tomorow if something is broke and i could not find it.
I issued an update and it should be fine now. keep a backup of your files in any case though...

    Thanks!
Do you think i should add a feature so you can actually choose the version of the file output??
And maybe even make the file to be actually in the form of that version! Backwards compatibility!!!
That way someone could configure files even for an older version of MM!!!
I wonder what @Afforess would think about that, maybe he could provide all the templates for all the different versions! and if he can't maybe he can ask in his thread if someone could and would like to do it!!
Alone would be a hell to dig out all the versions...

    EDIT:
i am gonna work on removing that mistake today...
    WXW i mean (hehe)

Ok i released the 1.1.1.12 version that should be perfect for now!
Also do you think an installer for bukkit in the gui is a good idea?
installer for the supported plugins too? maybe even an updater too?
it would make my life much much easier if i start saving a few data
in an .xml for guis purposes! something withing the application??
nah that will not work... it must be an external xml i could save it
deep in the system files out of sight, locked and invisible! ha! that
way a billion of features is opening!!!

another update will come in a tiny bit to fix a medium bug please stand by.

Please do not do that... The thing that annoys me the most is programs that stick files all over the directory structure. Please just have the xml file in the SAME directory as the program itself. Keep everything together.

Make it so you could pick up the program directory and move it to another directory without worrying about missing files, etc. Similar to what bukkit has done. I could even move it to another computer without worrying about it.

    John Kapsis

    Hmmm....
    you have a point there...
then if it saves in the bukkit directory?
the problem is that MPCGUI has no directory in your computer! it's a clickOnce app!

  27. Offline

    The_Nut

Even if it is a click once app, it is run from somewhere.. that is where the xml should be stored. In the current "./" directory.

  28. Offline

    John Kapsis

ClickOnce apps work very differently then that i'm affraid...
If i where to confine to both your request and ClickOnce IO.Filesystem classes i must use locations such as appData (the file .minecraft is in) or "\Users\User\MPCGUI Config files" or i could go into the My Documents folder and make there "My Documents\MPCGUI Config files" but there is no directory for MPCGUI anywhere!! The entire program is encoded in a signed method within your windows roaming data! in other words it is in many many pieces all over windows shared files. thats the way Microsoft works! and is damn fast and steady!!!

So what i wanna say is that you could even choose where the file should be stored but what i need is ONE FIXED location to store things so when you update, setting and prefs and other things i wish to include in the future stays safe and there to be loaded at first open after the update!

There are a few occassions that an update can wipe out user scoped setting in vb.net
    thats why it is necessary!!

Then I would suggest using "%appdata%/.MinecraftMultiPluginConfig/settings.xml" since that is always in a single spot and is across all flavors of windows.

You think maybe it should be in
"%My Documents%/.MinecraftMultiPluginConfigGUI/settings.xml" for easy access or "%appData%/.MinecraftMultiPluginConfigGUI/settings.xml" for keeping it a bit safer?

If you have a way to change the settings within the MPCGUI and then save them to disk, I would say to have them in %appdata% because I like to keep "My Documents" clean and contain My stuff, not program settings. If you require the settings.xml file to be edited to change preferences, then place it in My Documents.

Just my opinion... your call. :)
