    Permissions 3.0
Rcjrrcjr has been working quite hard on this upgrade to Permissions. However, it currently still suffers from a number of bugs. The most important of these which directly affects HeroChat is the non-functioning of prefixes and suffixes. There are less-than-pretty workarounds, but I'm refraining from fully supporting an update until Permissions 3.1 is released which should include a number of significant bug fixes. When this does occur, however, I have a build ready for you guys that should work. You can download it here. Again, I highly suggest not using this until Permissions 3.1 is released unless you really don't care about prefixes and such.

See you when I get back!

Is your config resetting when you make changes?
If you make changes to the config while the server is running, you need to use the /ch reload command to make the changes stick. I wish this message wasn't necessary, but people only seem to read things in big, bold, red text (if at all).

Have a problem? a feature request? Go here.
HeroChat now has its very own redmine found here. If you have an issue or would like to suggest a new feature, I urge you to file it via redmine. I will be checking this much more often than this thread from here on out.

@Xemnas33, I can't say why it's setting offtopic as your default without seeing your config file. Check the defaultChannel: line in your config. Make sure it is followed by the channel you want to set as the default and is spelled correctly. I apologize for the naming confusion. I really need to standardize both the command and the config to the same system for colors - this is a high priority at the moment.

Thank you for the quick reply & fix & feature!

Well, if it works I can now color the Nick in any way I wish and have the text white (set all channels to color White and only modify the {Nick} with color.COLOR) Will go and test it.

One more little thing, and then I am just about happy: Any way that chat is being shown in the console again? Currently nothing is logged, and I love my logs for disputes ;)

Yep set as default but I haven't touched the file before.
    Code:
    <channel>
            <tag>O</tag>
            <name>OFFTOPIC</name>
            <colorCode>7</colorCode>
            <defaultFocus>true</defaultFocus>
            <shortcuttable>true</shortcuttable>
            <permanent>true</permanent>
            <autojoin>true</autojoin>
            <hidden>false</hidden>
            <forced>false</forced>
            <local>false</local>
        </channel>
Well fixed it now. Also is there anyway to get the chat text to appear as the person's colour set in permissions? But still have the tag as the channel colour?

So say it would have [G] in green and then [Admin] Xemnas33:text here all in red(or whatever colour is set for that group)

You did see that with 2.0 the whole channel formatting changed and now uses a new file in Yaml format? Reread the OP ;)

would it be possible to add the option to password protect a channel or something? It'd be awesome if we could make a Mod only channel or something for private discussions. Thanks!

This. Or can it be set to that only certain ranks can access certain channels? Our server loved this in hmod

Currently there is an issue on b163-164 that has the /reload feature breaking all plugins. If you use those builds - it will not work until one or the other is updated.
    --- merged: Jan 28, 2011 6:29 PM ---
This is already possible - use hidden channels.
    --- merged: Jan 28, 2011 6:30 PM ---
Our goal is to make this plugin as LIGHTWEIGHT as possible without adding in unneeded or unwanted features while retaining the multi-channel capability. The more advanced a plugin becomes the more likely it will break every single update. Following the same format as ChatChannels it wasnt updated since Nov 09 and lasted throughout the death of HMOD - we are going for that same idea.

Ah I see, yes, I went back to b161 or so now.

Doesnt reduce my love for this plugin ;) Only console-logging please :)

    Kainzo

It will be fixed, our biggest concern is not having a plugin that breaks every update - a chat plugin needs to be the most stable ones and still retain the needed features, its a WIP. Console logging should be in soon.
    --- merged: Jan 28, 2011 7:44 PM ---
An update - I have tested this 2.1 on v161 and it is running fine - although some of the issues previously will be sorted - and we will accommodate and update for the newest releases.

Also - A fix for the nasty console spam has been made. Thanks for the testing - this plugin will become more refined with good feedback like yours, GMK

Another minor update has been released to add console logging. All HeroChat messages will be posted to the console with the [HEROCHAT] prefix. Messages are posted in a stripped-down format with only the channel nickname, player and message included.

I will add custom player-based prefixes and suffixes (which override their group counterparts) as soon as I get a clarification on something from Nijikokun.

    Version 2.2
    • Console logging added.

Read the error log - you can see that this isnt related to HeroChat.

One person in your permissions list is assigned to a non-existant group, or something else is wrong with permissions.

For me it was that an user was assigned to the 'miner' group, while it should have been 'Miners'.

@Xemnas33, as GmK stated, the error is coming from an error in your Permissions/config.yml file, so it's not HeroChat related.

    New version uploaded!

This latest build finally includes the much requested channel joining and speaking privileges based on Permissions groups. Please read the official changes and the updated configuration section. Your old configs must be modified to match the new standard!

    • Channels can now have restricted join and speak privileges based on permission groups
    • Channels can choose to override the default format string

Fantastic update - and works like a charm now! Especially the hidden channels / alert things and such, and the user-specific prefixes.

I know I have many requests, so disregard the following if you deem it unnecessary: Could there be an option that certain groups autojoin a channel on login, while others dont?

I was thinking of the e.g. Global channel. I dont want the 'normal' users to autojoin that, but my Ops and Mods and whatnot to do so. Currently I can make them autojoin a channel, but that forbids the others to join that channel as well.

    That would be lovely :)

@Xemnas33, I've added support for commands to have multiple aliases to help avoid this and other similar potential issues. See the change log for details.

    Version 2.41
    • The join, leave and ignore commands can now also be accessed using /ch join, /ch leave and /ch ignore, respectively
    --- merged: Jan 29, 2011 11:11 PM ---
The HeroCraft server has completed the move to 1.2 and is now officially using HeroChat. While the users seem very pleased with the plugin so far, I'm still interested in seeing what other feature ideas anyone may have.

Let me know if your server supports HeroChat and how it's handling!

For some reason, after downloading v2.41, my admin prefix doesnt show up. All the other prefixes work, accept the admin one, which is the 6th group. It works on v2.2, but no matter what i change the admin group prefix to, it shows up as Default.

Since updating to 2.41 all text on any channel shows you as Default group. This is a bug in the release, not a config issue.

2.41 works fine for me with groups I did have a problem where it wouldn't show my writing but logging out fixed that.

@MatCat, there are multiple servers running version 2.41 with groups working flawlessly. Post your configs or I can't help you. Spewing such blatantly stubborn and ignorant statements won't help you.

I will post config but Essentials rewrites it on the fly... so it's not like I can do much about it's structure. Wasn't trying to be ignorant just stating that I didn't think it would be possible for the yml file to be wrong with Essentials rewriting it.
