    News

    v2.4.2 Released - 9/24/2011
See the change log for details.
Everyone using PermissionsEx, Essentials, or anything else besides the regular permissions plugin or PermissionsBukkit should add or change this in their config under the Global section:
    LegacyPermissions: true
As of 2.4.0 the bPermissions plugin is supported directly.
As of 2.3.7 the PermissionsBukkit plugin is supported directly.
This support is not done through the new built in Permissions that bukkit provides, because there is no way to get a players group using the built in methods. However, by supporting this directly, you can now use the new permissions system while still keeping Residence, and not having to use old permissions at all anymore.

    Residence Signs (by KarnEdge)

NOTE: All Residence usage information has been moved to the wiki!

    About:
Residence is different from most protection plugins in that it aims for the users to be able to protect their own homes without having to bother the admin to do it. Residence has support for a variety of different protection types including preventing movement through areas, all of which can be configured by the land owner, and limited by the admin.
    Features:
    Features (open)

    • Allows players to define protected areas for themselves.
    • Individual permissions for each protected area. Land owner can give / deny permissions globally or to other specific players.
    • Different permissions per land include: move, build, use, pvp, fire, teleport, monsters spawn, damage prevention
    • Support for group permissions on protections.
    • Multi-World support.
    • Teleport system to allow users to teleport to residences.
    • Collision detection system to prevent residences from overlapping.
    • Limits to protected size can be set up by the admin.
    • Limits to number of protected areas per player can be set.
    • Two ways to select land including using the select command, or using a item to select 2 points.
    • Messages when you enter / leave a residence. (customizable)
    • Land "leasing" system which requires users to renew the lease on their protection every X number of days or loose the protection. (off by default, see config file)
    • Recursive Sub-zoning. Create zones within zones, and then zones within those zones...
    • TONS of configuration for admins. Customize every single flag that players can or cannot use in the config file, based on their permissions group.
    • (Optional) IConomy support, can set up cost per X number of blocks protected.
    • (Optional) Permissions support.
    • In-game help / commands descriptions

    • Fixed global "container" flag bug.
    • Fixed some NPE's related to explosions.

    v2.1
    • BOSEconomy support.
    • Essentials Economy support.

    • /res check [residence] [flag] <player> command, this command evaluates if <player> is affected by [flag] at [residence]. You can leave off <player> and it will use your name.
    • Added a LeaseAutoRenew config option, that will cause leases to automatically renew so long as the player has the money to do so. Note that, if economy is disabled this doesn't work, as there would be no point to leases. Needs Testing! :)
    • Global FlagPermission config section, that allows you to give permission to use a flag to all groups, useful for the build / move / use flag that you almost definitely want everyone to have access to. Flags under each individual group will overrule these.
    • You can now set a limits on how deep or how high protections can go into the group, using each groups MinHeight and MaxHeight settings.
    • /res select sky, and /res select bedrock commands, these auto adjust to the above mentioned MinHeight and MaxHeight settings, so it won't select into a area you can't protect.
    • Rent system implemented.
    • Many bug fixes, including proper creeper explosion prevention now. Also, fixed some bugs when renaming residences.
    • New healing flag.
    • The monsters flag has been split up into "animals" and "monsters" now.
    • New Developer API, including custom Bukkit events.

Also - how are chests protected in this feature? Can anyone access them? is there a toggle like Regions?

While the changes you made for flags are nice and basically do what I suggested, I meant something more along the lines of new Permission Nodes such as:

Player Flags- allows people in this permissions group to use this flag in /res set <ResidenceName> [flag] [true/false/remove]
    residence.pflags.move
    residence.pflags.build
    residence.pflags.use
    residence.pflags.tp
    residence.pflags.admin

Residence Flags - allows people in this permissions group to use this flag in /res pset <ResidenceName> [PlayerName] [flag] [true/false/remove]
    residence.rflags.move
    residence.rflags.build
    residence.rflags.use
    residence.rflags.tp
    residence.rflags.pvp
    residence.rflags.explosions
    residence.rflags.fire
    residence.rflags.damage
    residence.rflags.monsters

But I suppose that would be useless for those not using permissions, huh?

I didn't know this had been added to BukkitUpdate already... but i guess thats ok :) Im assuming the reason it thinks theres and update has something to do with the fact its a .zip rather then a .jar but I wouldnt know for sure without asking the author.

    Glad to hear it :D

Hmm, i notice that it doesn't recognize permissions either. Are you using permission just for curiosity? Im not really sure why its not working for you :( But i guess its time to implement a save-interval feature that will autosave residences at intervals. Also going to add a save message to the server log whenever it saves. When you stop your server, and it says "[Residences] Disabled!", do you see any error messages in the server log?

Not quite sure i understand your question... but what I think your asking is how each player is assigned their group, in which case yea, it pulls their permissions group and uses that. If for whatever reason it cannot find thier permissions group or your not using permissions, it throws the person into whatever group you have set as your defaultGroupName in the config file. Hope that answers it... and thanks :)

See first reply above... but yea, you might be right as well, could be due to the config file.

Chests are protected by the 'use' flag of the residence. Furnaces should also be the same. Doors are currently broken due to a bukkit bug, but they will get it sorted.

Yea, there's a couple reasons why its done the way it is. First off, yea if your not using permissions it doesn't help you... Second, remember each flag has 3 possibilities, it can be true, false, or neither. If i did it with permissions, i would have to make twice the number of nodes there are now, because it would have to have a 'residence.pflags.build.true' and a 'residence.pflags.build.false' where as with the way its done now, its just "build:true/false" or you can remove build from the list completely to get a neither flag. So yea, that's why I ultimately did it this way. As a side note, its also probbably slightly more CPU efficient to have my own specific internal permissions, rather then continuously passing it to permissions, even though permissions does have good caching ability.

@bekvon - is there any plans to allow for players -IN GAME to make a customized list of players they want allowed to each protection? For example. JoeBob does /res create list NAME .... then does /res list NAME add JeanBay, BobbieToot, Random101 ... and then when they are protecting a residence they'll be able to use the 'list' instead of adding each person individually into the protection/residence.

    bekvon

Aye, thats on my todo list, however its not top priority right now, im trying to solidify the save system a bit, since some people are having trouble with it, and its a quite important thing. And then after that I will work on buying / selling of residences, and then finally player lists. The reason its at the bottom is that, until its built you can still use the "/res mirror" command to mirror permissions, and so you don't necessarily have to add everyone manually at the moment if you already have a residence with the perms you want. I think that command should suffice until I get lists implemented.

What about tax charges? I would love to use this plugin, but I'm afraid I'm going to get all these plots of land all over the place from players who aren't active anymore on the server. I would like for it to just deduct money from them every 24 hours in real life, and when they don't have enough, it releases ownership on the land again.

  9. Offline

    bekvon

I guess I could do taxes, but you've just given me a great idea that I think will work even better. You know how in real life when you want to rent a apartment, you have to sign a lease. What I could do is rather then you owning the land, you lease it for X days. Then towards the end of the lease, you can either choose to renew it or let it run out. If you let it run out, it will automatically release the land, and if you renew it your lease is refreshed back to full and you keep the land. I could then add a config option that will let you choose if renewing the lease will charge you iConomy money again, so that it would work like taxes. I would also make the number of days configurable, and a configurable minimum time between lease renewal (basically you cant renew unless its less the X days until expiration). I could even add a "renewal cost per block" setting, so that you can make renewal cheaper then actually buying the land again.

Hmm, there must be some special case that's causing it to not work. I'll see if I can narrow down what causes this.

That's a great idea. That would ensure that they've logged in within the past x number of days. I'd love it if an admin/mod could override the amount of days for a user (IE: They're going to be going on vacation for 2 weeks but the timeout period is 7 days - The user could then arrange with the admin to renew it for that period of time so that they don't lose their lot while they're out of town)

I don't know if you have kept the old beta versions, but if so, would you be willing to put them up for download? I run a small server with only 3 other people at the moment. I am very impressed with the features of the current version but, right now, only need the simplicity of an earlier one.

Perhaps a method to specify the defaults for flags might be handy?

That too is a good idea. Like I say, the only thing that's stopping me from using this is that it has no sink on the players account, and therefore, their plots of land are permanent. There's a mod called towny that has this functionality built into it, but I find it way to bulky for use as well.

I really appreciate the time that your spending working on this plugin. Once you have that feature implemented, I'll be using it for sure! :)

So.. I've got this installed ok. I'm set to op, and admin in permissions with .* etc...
I've been able to map a cuboid I want to protect, but when I try to create the zone nothing happens.
I am doing it like so, "/res create ###" (where ### is the zone name I want to create).
I get no errors ... nothing. Help pls :)

    bekvon

Yup, il make sure to implement admin controls :)
Umm...... no i dont have them anymore :( sorry!

You can specify default flags in the config file. Its done by group too, so you can give different groups different default flags.

I should have the feature implemented in the next couple days, so shouldn't be to long :)

Here's the errors I'm getting btw. I tested this with no other mod installed so it has to be something with Residence. This happens when I select my wood pickaxe (the weapon I set in the config for mapping zones), select point a, then point b. I will do a /res select size to see how many blocks are being protected, and i notice sometimes at this point these errors start going off. Other times I will try /res create adminbldg (name of the zone) and it throws them off. In game however I get no message. Not sure what to do!

but... when i restart the server, all residences are gone.
And i wonder how the plugin manage that without database?

    I got this message too:

[INFO] [Residence] - Save file does not exist.

Im using LWC, achievements and stats, myhome, permissions, essentials, iconomy, iconomychestshop and some other plugins.

Ok now it's giving these errors any time I even log in with Residence lol... Wtf have I FUBAR'd up?

Ok.. apparently it's just an issue with my config.yml. I probably fudged it up somewhere, because the default one from the folder works fine :)) Sorry to cause a fuss. I am just a little confused on exactly what effect "true" and "false" have on the various flags. When I think true/false I think on/off, etc so I am thinking a flag set to true means it WILL block that action. Correct me if I'm wrong here...

Well that particular error was related to the fire (BLOCK_IGNITE) event. Basically, it looks like it was caused when fire was started by somting other then a player (lava) and Residence was thinking it was started by a player. Should be fixed now I think, try it and see :) and thanks for reporting this.

No known issues with other plugins, but that doesn't mean they dont exist. I just released a new version which includes a configurable auto-save interval. Should save every 10 minutes. Try it and see if your problem is fixed, or if at least throws a error message now.

Il look into it when I get time, hopefully the API is similar enough I wont have to change much.

lol thats a big castle... I tweaked a couple things with subzone creation in this version i just release, but im not sure that any of them fixed it. It should now throw a error message to the console whenever this happens though, so if you would, try it again and if it works awesome, if not see if there's a error message and paste it here :)

    let me clarify,
i have a residence, 200 square blocks, i can make 1 20 block subzone near one corner of the map, howver if it try to create another 20 block subzone in the opposite corner, more than 100 blocks away it tells me that it overlaps with another subzone.

I don't want give him right to set by himself. I read all threat but I'm still not sure. It would be nice if someone explain me directly for this matter.

I think it would be a good idea if in specific area you could use any commands or permissions which choose admin. Or even a better idea would be if in specific area you could run specific plugin, for example http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/econ-ecocreature-0-0-3-pvm-e-rewards-556.9061/ this plugin can only work in specifc zone :)

Sorry for my bad english. :) I hope you understand what i ment to say :)

Thank you for your speedy response about not having the old beta versions anymore. I understand. Perhaps, in the next update or distant future, you could implement a customizable menu, such as color change and format, and have it so it doesn't display commands in the menu that are not accessible to certain groups, like default, just so I don't have to hear my friends demand I turn the teleport option on. So maybe have the teleport option, subzone, custom message set, etc. unaccessible in the menu if turned off in the config. I know you are busy with all these other demands, and I have no idea how you keep up with them, it is very impressive, but maybe these things could be worked on when the plugin has been perfected. Thanks

We are really enjoying this mod on my server. I do have one question that comes up often though:

In some cases using a tool to define the corners of a residence isn't practical. Does /res select [x] [y] [z] define a cube, or a sphere, from the center point where the player is standing?
