Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

    --------------------------

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

I can't thank the bukkit team enough for their effort. I and probably many others can't think of Minecraft without using Bukkit. I use bukkit even for singleplayer, just because you can easily add features to the game. I also host servers regularly with quite a lot of people and my experience is that I can fully rely on the bukkit software.

I really don't understand why people don't tell their members that the server will not update right away and to keep a back up of your client. i am using 1.3 and my server still has people. and ty bukkit, you are who makes minecraft servers possible.

We did tell our users we wouldn't be updating right away, yet some still updated their clients anyway. And we also have said repeatedly that nobody knows when we'll be able to update, yet we still get asked when we're updating at least 3 times a day. In fact I just looked over at my minecraft window and somebody -just- asked when we'll be updating!

Very important bug fixes that did not slow down development on 1.4.

So that those of us who have not upgraded to 1.4 can have an even better experience.

A better question would be: Why question/criticise the work ethics and decisions of an organisation who work for FREE (time, effort, expenses, etc.) for the public good, which YOU reap the benefits from and yet contribute nothing towards, when you're clearly not the brightest spark that flew from the fire? Do you truely expect a pertinent answer to a question put across in this manner?

Like the rest of us, you need to wait patiently until Bukkit release a 1.4.2 RB and not try to cut corners or jump fences by trying to achieve the impossible. Wait for Bukkit to do that for you. ;)

  13. lol we wer fine with not updating but a respected player suggested move to a blank vanilla server and play like it was intended 48 people one house no grievers.....epic and again thanks for the dev build no mess ups shut it down for night bc well im only admin up and headed off so i don't trust 37 people i don't know.

and on the server side one of my buds figured out the wither skull dupe it was a plugin fail we just extended the spawn protection radius for now

    Quick Question.
Ive been having problems with the new Wither Skeletons, normal Skeletons and the random spawns of Blaze which are as far as i am aware supposed to spawn in already generated Nether Forts, Maybe i misread or heard this wrong?.

Anyway i went to my already generated Nether Fort and found nothing, then went in search of a new fort in a new direction from the old. I found one and immediately found the new spawning behavior, Wither and normal Skeletons and the random spawning of Blaze. I farmed them until i had 3 Skulls, and made my Beacon. Later on i decided to try my luck for some more skulls, but i can not get any of the new Wither to spawn at all, also there are no normal Skeletons and the random Blaze spawns seem to have stopped as well, and this was in the newly generated fortress. I also checked my older fort and still nothing there either.

The other thing i have not been able to find as of yet is the new Witch Hut.

Question is, is anyone else having any issues like this or is it that these things have not been implemented fully yet ?

    Build #2420
    Plugins i have running
    Creeper Heal
    My Worlds
    JCommands
    Performance Monitor

Just in case anyone has had problems and found one of those to be the culprit.

Thanks for the hard work Bukkit team, other than this little issue i have things seem to be working great.

Question to the Bukkit Team: will you be planning to implement the command blocks in such a way that they will be able to run commands for plugins?

After playing around with the new command blocks for several hours on single-player, I can already think of half a dozen uses for them if I could run plugin commands with them. I think this would be an amazing feature that would add many more possibilities for games, maps, and servers.

I would have thought they will be added the same as they are in a normal Minecraft server.

As far as i am aware the command blocks pass server commands to console, so as long as the Plugin you wish to control has a command line for the specific things you want it to do you should be able to issue it through a command block just as you would typing it yourself into console.

what are the differenses between all the development builds?

There wouldn't be a need for the command to ACTUALLY by "typed" by the commandblock into the console - but I do understand what you are getting at - but commands from the blocks are not simply passed into the console, no.

What I hope the Bukkit team does is make a new CommandSender class (Like Player or ConsoleCommandSender) - that's really the reason that interface was created. We'll probably see a CommandBlockCommandSender class, which would be most appropriate.

If command blocks really are designed to enter commands into the server console, that is going to get annoying very quickly if you are someone who is actually trying to type in the console.

BTW WTH build in permissions system... why we even using a plugin for perms? I love pex (and yes some hate it) but looking at the last time updates/releases were done for most major plugins (needed purely due to dependancies) why doesnt bukkit add this functionality just right in the server?

    Just an idea...

    TnT

Why add functionality when a plugin can do it better? We have the SuperPerms API, and as you can see by the dozen of different plugins to manage permissions, each dev has their own idea of how permissions should be handled.

true, TNT. Im not saying there isnt other ways to it just wondering why we dont got a generic version of it to come with it....
BTW on a bad note. There might be a serious issue with 'autosave' every time I boot my server with autosave on, all entities start lagging (but not me?) Example autosave on, go hit a cow with a sword and it'll end up taking like another 30 seconds before I can register another hit on the same mob. go to 'save-off' and instantly reaction and movement of entities goes back to normal. Wish I knew more about the codebase so I could dig into that... could maybe be bad default #'s for the ticks per save or dunno but something is definitely off nor do get errors other then the server spamming it cant keep up.

spawn-limits: (set these lower then even default)
    monsters: 60
    animals: 10
    water-animals: 2
    ticks-per:
    animal-spawns: 400
    monster-spawns: 1
autosave: 0 (was on 1 but changed it back to keep it disabled now)

PS. has anyone else tested to see if witches cause splash effects/dmg with their potions they dont do nothing to me so far.
