Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

    --------------------------

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

This makes literally no sense at all.

If you're asking if CraftBukkit for 1.4 is available yet. The answer is No.

Read the other posts in this thread (including the one directly above yours) for more information.

I believe you misunderstood. I meant a public repository that includes all working commits... Not a spreadsheet but just some sort of public source that is undergoing development in the moment.

    There's the bleeding repo:
    https://github.com/Bukkit/

But I'm pretty sure the activity is made private (i can see it's been changed but the commits are not visible).

Or, more likely, they don't have a public Github and I'm talking rubbish.

And, to be quite honest, this update should have been absolutely no surprise to you either.... Its pretty poor server administration to not tell your members not to update until the server has....

Surely that isn't bleeding, man. I have known about the Git repository for a while yet I am sure that enormous commits by a singular user isn't the actual progress that's going on behind the scenes. :-P

At least this isn't as bad as the 1.2.x updates.

So what should the Bukkit Devs learn from this round of updates?

Next time Title the thread "We'll get there when WE GET THERE!"
Or, "Don't make me turn this car around!" I personally hope they never do that.

Something all the whiny kids can relate to.

Seriously people. Read the damn thread and stop asking when it will be done. Grow up a little. Or write your own MC mod. Give them a chance, donate, send them a cookie cake. They deserve it. The do NOT deserve the whining and complaining.

For some reason I got it in my head that Bukkit joining Mojang means they got paid. Didn't know it's still volunteer based. Can we send beer over the internet yet?

Okay, this is a legitimate excuse for not reading the whole thread. You are exempt form my reprimands. My posts were directed at others that feel they are somehow being wronged.

You have a very small server.. Or you're just really unproffesional looking at the comments you make. Don't whine at them because bukkit is free.. If you want something better or faster, go ahead and develop your own system..

    I'll second that.

For everyone saying they should have gotten a pre-release version to work on to speed things up consider this.

If it takes them a week (as an example) to code Bukkit 1.4 and they got a pre-release 4 days ago (still an example) they don't have it out yet because despite the pre-release they haven't had enough time yet. A pre-release from too far back is pointless as it has been stated plenty of times in the past that a change to the release causes them to have to recode a whole ton of stuff from scratch. So pre-releases help but it only gives them a head start on a long project.

They do get the pre-releases and are working on it. If they could have it out 5 minutes after Mojang they would. Its not like they sit in front of their computers twiddling their mustaches and cackling with a finger poised over the "Upload 1.4" button. If they rush the update they could quite easily miss a bug that crashes or corrupts 1,000s of servers.

    If you are really that bored here are some suggestions;

    1. Just play 1.32 like many of us are doing

    2. Start an SSP game on 1.4 and try out the new features you seem to be loosing the ability to live without

    3. Play something else <- I started Secret of Evermore as its been over a decade since I played it.

On a related note, does anyone have an idea why some people find Minecraft "less fun" when they cant use things from a new update because Bukkit isn't updated? I have never understood this. Your server works exactly the same as it did before the update you don't have. It's not like you are at a disadvantage like this was WoW and you haven't bought the expansion because nobody on your server has the new stuff. I know I have projects that can take a minimum of weeks to months and while I leave spots open for later items it doesn't cause me to not work on them cause those items don't exist yet. I finished a hotel on my server a month ago with empty spots around it for flower pots when 1.4 comes out.

    >_< 1.4 wasn't even all that good, couldn't they add more stuff before releasing it and making us all update our servers?! There were like bats and stuff but besides that the game was already awesome without them.

I'm in Arizona we just got to stop using the AC this week so temperature isn't a problem. I figured if some people are so hooked on Minecraft that their lives are so impacted for a patch that just came out, outside activities may not be up their alley.

The improvement of Bukkit comes from the community, not from a couple of guys. We are lucky to have the Bukkit team who works really hard to get Bukkit updated, but after that it's a long process of community input, pull-requests, and bug reports to get Bukkit into a stable state.

Even if Bukkit was ready-to-go on day 1, we'd still have to spend just as long fixing all the kinks. I think you need to chill out and realize that you're currently leeching off other people's hard work, and you should think about the work put into this before you come complaining.

Outside is usually poorly lit and can have creepers. If I can look up and see the sky I know I'm outside, though there was this one time I was in a cave and thought I was inside, that got messy. There was this other time I was in an indoor mall but they had a skylight, that got confusing.
