When will CraftBukkit for 1.3 be released?

With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

Have a look if you have FTP access to your server. If so you could just delete the craftbukkit.jar and replace it with a dev build one renamed to craftbukkit.jar thats what I have done with my host as they also don't let you get dev builds unless you do it via FTP.

There is No ETA. You cant write code and fix bugs in a definite set time frame. You can have targets but that is never definite. I'm sure the target for the bukkit team is as soon as possible.

Can a moderator use a command on the forum to find and delete all posts containing "When is" on this thread. Don't people realise it is impossible to give an ETA.

Following this thread is like some warped form of Groundhog Day. I can understand people not wanting to read 97 pages but on this page alone the status of 1.3 has been stated by helpful people several times and new posters are just completely ignoring them.

    1. They are bug squashing, there is no current ETA for a Recommended Build. 1.3 is a huge update, rushing them to slap "Recommended" on a build is a recipe for disaster.
    2. If you want to be informed as soon as a RB is pushed -> https://twitter.com/#!/craftbukkit
    3. If you can't wait for a RB, http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/ - try a dev build but be sure to backup your world.
    4. If you feel the Bukkit development team isn't working hard enough for you and you aren't getting your money's ( ) worth or are too lazy to read this thread, you honestly have no business running a server.

lol... where have you been hiding...everybody was told the world was ending in 2012...can't you see that's true from some of the reactions :D:D
Some people just don't get it though unfortunately... the same people would be complaining if bukkit released a rb with bugs that trashed their servers.... so bukkit will never win :'(
I'm one of those strange admins though who actually see's this time as a bonus...
I am running my server on the default jar until there is a RB released... and all of my players are actually quite happy even though they are so used to all our plugins and worlds....
I set up a temp map took the time to set up piles of signs explaining to all my players how servers with plugins work (as most players don't understand how servers run, they just get on and play) and why we are on default with no plugins and that their builds and worlds are still intact and coming back at some stage... every single one of them was happy that someone took the time to explain to them why it was so and that they weren't left in the dark ...they are all happy to wait and to tell you the truth they are all having a ball blowing up parts of the map with tnt which they can't normally do lol ... the upside for me too is that i can see how they all behave when they are not trying so hard to be nice for the sole reason to gain ranks... its a fantastic way to gauge future ranking (as i had a few new players recently)....
I think sometimes people need to look for the positives instead of the negatives :D

Does the host allow you to upload your own files?

I hear that executing rm -rf ~/ will make it come out faster.

Just swapped in build 2296, and I'm deliberately trying to trip it up. My notes thus far:

    • I'm getting more (seemingly) random disconnects on this build than I have previously. Doesn't seem (yet) to be time-based and I've not locked it down to one single activity. Console reports [Disconnect] User (me) has disconnected, reason: disconnect.endOfStream. Client reports an internal exception:java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out. FWIW, I think the server's lagging behind enough that events are stacking up and crashing it.
    • Enabled plugins, fired up the flight mode in zombe's modpack, and went on a tour of the edges of the map. After flying back and forth over the edge of the generated map area (and the server was not generating new chunks, BTW), I was kicked off with a recv failed error and the console reports "reason: disconnect.overflow." This makes me think my assessment that the server's stacking up on unprocessed/unhandled events until it crashes may be close to the mark.
    • Still have the occasional "fall out of world on spawn."
    • Seeing a lot of "[Server] INFO (me)" in the log without any additional detail - 20-30 of them before I get disconnected with an EoS/read timeout.
    • Latency is still an issue - I place a torch, let's say, and see it happen immediately but the sound fires anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds later.
    • Latency isn't showing as a reduced TPS - when mobs are teleporting around playing catch-up to their latest positions /gc reports TPS as 20.0 with only me on the server.
The above is without regard to plugins - I tried the build both with and without plugins in place and get the same behavior. Hope all that helps somehow...

The insulting comment was not necessary, and have you ever observed a dev build of CraftBukkit crashing a computer?

It is coming out soon, thing is, they can't give an exact ETA, so you, and all of us, just have to wait.
I can promise this: it WILL come out, question is; when ;)

Keeping up with all of the dev builds and have, so far, avoided the trolls here. However, I upgraded to the latest build last night and now plug-ins have lost some of their most important functionalities and sticky pistons are doing some crazy things. For Pyraetos, or someone else in the know, do I report the bugs here, or go talk to the dev people that made the plugins and hope you all get to the piston thing?

Additionally, Thanks for all the hard work on this process. The best plugins and server software come from you folks. If they weren't, there wouldn't be so many of us using it.

To anyone who keeps on refreshing this page, there is probably not going to be any further posts on the progress being made on the new Recommended Build (except for when bukkit eventually announces its release) but if you really must be constantly updated on what's happening, I suggest you keep an eye on this page https://twitter.com/craftbukkit
Or for more professional and detailed updates https://github.com/Bukkit/CraftBukkit/commit

Do you have mcmmo? If so, disable tree feller.

Or just add a try-catch around the offending code and wait for bukkit/mcmmo to fix it properly.

What a great way to go about it! I currently have just left my server at 1.25 but running it as a clean server seems a great way to 1. see who is dedicated to you and will stay, and 2. A great way to gain new players.

I want to do some clean up on my Minecraft map though so tempted to do as you are doing then I can do my edits in single player, which I find much easier because of my much more powerful PC.

Okay, 404Ninja was kind enough to refer me to https://bukkit.atlassian.net/secure/Dashboard.jspa to report the bug problems that I am having with the most current build of the dev release. I feel I was summarily dismissed by the person looking into it as it being a plugin problem and therefore case closed. I didn't have ANY problems with ANY of the plugins on any of the dev builds until the last two builds. I am only running three plugins Essentials, LWC, and WorldEdit. Two builds ago, the bugs that have happened is that there is NO spawn of any creature whatsoever in the world, the sticky pistons are doing multiple actuations when used, very clippish fps, and strange lag spikes. I know that a lot of this is already being complained about and I have read every page for this thread. Now with this present build, everything is still buggy as described above, but now there is spawn, but the addition that now the command/help files are there for the plugins, but they do not work. I am getting errors on my startup as well. I am not going to post the errors because I may very well be on the wrong thread to post. I know that the folks are working hard on fixing all of the bugs that are cropping up, but I feel I was dismissed offhandedly without even the slightest explanation. If it was the plug ins that are causing the bugs, then why are all the other bugs still there when I delete, uninstall everything, and reinstall a vanilla BUKKIT??? The bugs for the plugins are also still there when I download and reinstall fresh copies of them without any saves or trying to reintroduce some form of a backed up copy.

Something more than just a three word answer about it being "Plugin Problems. Closed" would be greatly appreciated. If this isn't the thread, someone point me in the right direction and NOT JIRA.

Ok, I can at least explain one of the things. Plugins with chat commands will not work on the newer dev builds. (Any build past 2285 I think) because they changed their api. Therefore, the plugins you are using must be updated to the new api. Hope this helps.

Since I have been using this dev build there has been one big problem, a lot of people are joining and then getting disconnected instantly and the console brings up something about disconnect.overflow

    Anyone know what this is?

THAT explains everything!! I read through the server boot up log after reading through your response and sure enough there are chat component errors for all three of my plug ins. I will just have to put up with the problems until the official RB comes out and then wait for the plugin authors to update their stuff too. Thanks Ninja.
