Hello ! I am a server owner and i'd like to know if the bukkit team will also release the 1.3 RB on today or Thursday(tomorrow) (when the 1.3 minecraft version should be officially released ). The Mojang team also released a shapshot of 1.3 so you (the bukkit team) may work on it for the final release (here).
I am asking this because i want to plann when to wipe my map.

    Thank you!

1.3 is releasing on august first.

The snapshot you linked is a 1.2 weekly snapshot. They're fixing up bugs before doing the 1.3 pre-release which will be soon. Once the pre-release comes out, which will be august 1st's 1.3, the team will probably start working on it, and release around the time 1.3 comes out on the first.

Use a snapshot to build your world. That should ease your migration onto 1.3 when we do get a release out.

Thank you for your answer. I am waiting for final release.
I will wait until the final 1.3 cames out, maybe something will be changed and may destroy my map.

No, this is impossible. The server generation code has been created and unaltered since it was changed. I have been running a 1.3 vanilla server since 12w26a, and not a single problem has occured with it, in terms of world generation/saving.

It's completely fine, just get it out of the way now. The new Large Biomes are absolutely worth it.

I've been running a server for a few months now, and don't know how the update is going to affect us. Are there any written guides or forum postings you can suggest that are on the topic of transitioning into a new update?
    Thank you.

Going from there are you saying there waiting for the official release to make sure or will they start today with the pre-release.

Work presumably starts today. CraftBukkit release won't come until the 1st (or later) most likely.

Hmm odd really because the whole idea for pre releases was for moddeders and others to get ready, so I thought Bukkit would join, guess now eh.

Yes, the idea of pre-releases is for modders to get ready. Thus, the Bukkit team are starting modding today, to get ready for 1.3's release when they'll hopefully have CB ready. What's the confusion?

Will there be some kind of Googledoc where the progress will be shown like in the past?

I'm happy with anything that runs 1.3 as Craftbukkit.
    Confusion? None, was confirming(asking).

Any chance Bukkit have a dev build out before the 1st? Just curious, for plugin compatibility testing.

Does your plugin use non-Bukkit methods?

No, but this wouldn't be the first time I expected everything to be fine and found out something was broke in an update.

I've hardly bothered looking at 1.3 doesn't seem to be any major improvements to biomes or new ones... so I can just leave the world map the same?

Newly generated chunks will be vastly different or not much different at all?

Rexel : You should go ahead and look at 1.3 then. There are quite a few major changes/improvements.

    • Added desert villages.
    • Added jungle temples.
    • Added emerald ore.
    • Biomes such as Desert Hills and Ice Biomes are taller.

Doesn't sound like a new map is really required.. how about //regen will that be seamless for the most part?

I find the best solution is to use Multiverse and just get a new world with the new features and slowly migrate then ditch the old world once noone plays there anymore. My main world is a little over 3Gb and running on a SSD w/ 90GB is certainly enough space, having a large world is just not ideal due to performance.
