Quick question, if a file has not yet been approved am I allowed to post a link to the download in the comments ?

A few times users have asked me for a feature and it takes 10 minutes to implement but then 6 hours to get approved so I post a direct link in reply to their comment / ticket

    Okay / Not okay ?

Would much prefer you didn't, as that's circumventing the approval process.

I guess it sort of is, although the files does still have to be approved.

It would be good if trusted developers could have their files that are not yet approved still show up for download but with a big warning or something about it not being reviewed.

That would be good, for plugins with over 10,000 downloads or even 100,000 but that comes at a risk.

Considering we just had an existing project try to upload malicious files in a similar manner, we really frown upon this being publicly presented information. If you choose to PM a member, and link them to the file, that is acceptable.

Of course, you can always PM a Bukkit Dev staff member explaining the urgency of the situation and we will try to assist in a timely manner.

I'm available on IRC a ridiculously large amount of time each day, and for emergency patches will happily immediately check out a plugin. So will other staffers :)

Well the time I am thinking of was someone wanted me to make something configurable, it was done in such a way that it only required an extra 2 lines of code. So it's not exactly an urgent fix, plus I don't like to be that guy hat pesters the staff for things ;)

The approval system is obviously good for the users in the end, it's a shame there is no way to make small changes though.

    Anyway, thanks for answering :)

mbaxter TnT Some users of my plugin, once aware that I released a new version, click my name or change the URL to get to it directly and download it before it's approved. It's what they told me when I asked why they already had the new version before it was approved.

I was surprised that the direct link worked for a file that had not been approved yet actually. It is pretty useful though !

I directly link to the dropbox download location, where they always can find the latest version :)
