Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4.

This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice improvements as well:
    Fixed:
    • Made placing half blocks on existing half blocks (to make a full block) easier
    • Limit framerate on menu screens, no longer uses 100% cpu and make my computer melt
    • Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to anvil, when there’s blocks at max height
    • Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in SMP
    • Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at maxheight at spawn
    • Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
    • Fixed storage minecarts dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed crashes on invalid server addresses when joining a server
    • Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login (Multiplayer)
    • Fixed dupe exploit with paintings
    • Fixed furnaces and dispensers dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed the “flickering” of chat as it vanishes off the screen
    • Fixed text rendering over items in the container screens
    • Fixed exploit with jungle saplings (turns other saplings into jungle ones)
    • Fixed launcher opening minecraft dir if the path contains a space
    • Fixed an off-by-one lighting bug
    • Fixed block transmuting (turning one block into another via pistons)
    • Fixed placing mushrooms in daylight, where they can’t survive
    • Fixed redstone lamps dropping powered block items when destroyed while on
    • “save-all” (server) now works even when you have toggled “save-off”
    • Fixed turning half-blocks into full-blocks while you’re standing on them
    • Fixed seed displaying in F3 debug when the seed is unknown (multiplayer)
    • Fixed villager texture changing clientside per profession
    • Fixed falling off ledge corners while holding shift
    • Fixed players falling when reconnecting to servers where they were previously flying
    Added:
    • Chat history and much better chat editing
    • A few new decoration blocks
    • “Back” and “Quit” buttons to OutOfMemoryScreen
    • Made cats more realistic (read: probably annoying). I hope it’s enough to cancel out any joy you may receive from the previous feature!
    • Added a “minimal” debug menu for testing with. Shift+F3 to hide the graphs.
This is just a short announcement to let you know that we are aware of this and are working on it as I type this. Please note: Minecraft 1.2.4 has bumped the protocol version, so it is incompatible with 1.2.3.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Well said. Others that appose me and anyone on the bukkit team,... don't. They work hard to code all the thing that go into the plugins and Minecraft itself . I have tried coding simple things, and it is hard and time consuming. If you are going to me mad at anyone, be mad a Mojang, THEN REALIZE THAT MOJANG IS TRYING TO MAKE MINECRAFT BETTER!!! I hate the down time of servers, including mine. But it won't be a plugin killing update, hopefully. Grow up. Then thank everyone that made this possible. :)

    Its already out.

To everyone - dl.bukkit.org contains the builds. You don't need to wait here to get told - there are self serve methods available!

Wow, I've never seen so many people whine about free things. I'm just grateful that there is something other than the vanilla server app that I paid for. This is all gravy, and I'm just grateful to have it.

From a server owner/admin thanks for all of the great work guys, I'm excited that you've given your time away for free to expand an already amazing product.

I don't think it has to do with my plugins - it's not causing any problems, currently.

Unfortunately, I can't use Craftbukkit for my server, because I use a Mac with OS 10.4.11, which can't run the latest Java, and I also rely on the speed vanilla is released with. I am glad to say I was running 1.2.4 by 3PM EST, functioning fully.

However I sometimes run a localhost Craftbukkit with a fair amount of plugins, so I hope you get this released soon. I think this may be one of the first times you guys have not gotten a RB out before the next update :p

All my plugins are working on development build for 2107, a wierd bug I encounter is that when I type the command /pl or /plugins I crash from the server and the server itself remains only then I receive the error java.io.ioe.exception: Received string length longer than maximum allowed.

I have no idea why this is occurring and this is the only really bug I have encountered with this build besides from this everything seems stable.

All plugins work for me, although if you type a long sentence everyone in the server crashes... just a CB bug though, probably fixed by now for all I know.

it means too much characters in a chat cant be handled.

  15. I do not know if it has been said as i havent read the last 7 pages...

But to all the crying folk which thinks just because the bukkit team is now working for Mojang means that they can get updates faster. Have you ever thought about the fact, that they are simply NOT ALLOWED to share that knowledge and have to do things the old way? There is a reason why the MC code is obfuscated and why it takes ppl some time to deobfuscate it....

Minecraft is somehow ClosedSource and Bukkit is open source. They are not allowed to simply copy and paste some closed source parts into the open source part and get it working. (This might be possible but is illegal for them!)

I have been here for about a year now. And ever since i joined this whiners and trolls came by to drop their sh** here whenever a new update of MC was released. I guess the BIG red writing to not update your Client which can be found EVERYWHERE on these forums isn't big enough and never will be...

No, he's complaining that he's losing money because Bukkit won't update fast enough.

    Its there, look closely.

However, all that are out right now are dev builds. Use at your own risk.

To all the greedy impatient douchebags, try actually checking what bukkit are doing before you "WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!1111shiftone" all over the place.
Not 100% sure when in the last 10 hrs the update went live, but this thread was started 5.5 hrs ago.. There's already been 9 commits for a 1.2.4 version of CB here: http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/

I don't think I've ever seen a dev version of CB out so quickly after an update.. great job!

I partially agree. While the updating and bug maintenance of MineCraft is important, they must make sure to balance their time between the Bukkit project and their new jobs. I'm sure everyone understands that the team has lives, but everyone also has to understand that the transition will be a bit difficult. I digress, only once Mojang replaces the out of date server software with Bukkik will we actually see absolute synchronization between updates.
