Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4.

This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice improvements as well:
    Fixed:
    • Made placing half blocks on existing half blocks (to make a full block) easier
    • Limit framerate on menu screens, no longer uses 100% cpu and make my computer melt
    • Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to anvil, when there’s blocks at max height
    • Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in SMP
    • Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at maxheight at spawn
    • Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
    • Fixed storage minecarts dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed crashes on invalid server addresses when joining a server
    • Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login (Multiplayer)
    • Fixed dupe exploit with paintings
    • Fixed furnaces and dispensers dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed the “flickering” of chat as it vanishes off the screen
    • Fixed text rendering over items in the container screens
    • Fixed exploit with jungle saplings (turns other saplings into jungle ones)
    • Fixed launcher opening minecraft dir if the path contains a space
    • Fixed an off-by-one lighting bug
    • Fixed block transmuting (turning one block into another via pistons)
    • Fixed placing mushrooms in daylight, where they can’t survive
    • Fixed redstone lamps dropping powered block items when destroyed while on
    • “save-all” (server) now works even when you have toggled “save-off”
    • Fixed turning half-blocks into full-blocks while you’re standing on them
    • Fixed seed displaying in F3 debug when the seed is unknown (multiplayer)
    • Fixed villager texture changing clientside per profession
    • Fixed falling off ledge corners while holding shift
    • Fixed players falling when reconnecting to servers where they were previously flying
    Added:
    • Chat history and much better chat editing
    • A few new decoration blocks
    • “Back” and “Quit” buttons to OutOfMemoryScreen
    • Made cats more realistic (read: probably annoying). I hope it’s enough to cancel out any joy you may receive from the previous feature!
    • Added a “minimal” debug menu for testing with. Shift+F3 to hide the graphs.
This is just a short announcement to let you know that we are aware of this and are working on it as I type this. Please note: Minecraft 1.2.4 has bumped the protocol version, so it is incompatible with 1.2.3.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Thing is, if you guys are working with Mojang, wouldn't you already know what has been changed and been prepared for the update? I know it's a free software, but still.. Kinda doesn't make sense.

What? Have you not been paying attention to the fact bukkit joined up with Mojang not so long ago, they have worked on most of this 1.2.4 update they don't need notifying !o!..

What my post was getting at was the fact that Mojang/jeb have the gaul to announce ( meh updates, and push this out totally blazeh to the fact that only decent servers for the friggin game are hosted by those who run bukkit servers not crud vanilla SMP. So why the heck can't they just hold there frigging horses on these forced CLIENT UPDATES, until the craftbukkit is updated enough and plugin developers have a build with which to update to.

Its just a little obnoxious, and I'm not going to be oooh these are wonderful fixes and updates when I think about all the broken mods and plugins that offer far better stuff than this update that's gonna break it all again! "Chat history and much better chat editing" ..wow enhanced chat finallyI wonder if it will be better than the mod that existed long before it. Lets not forget this is just another hurdle for client side mods to have to wait for mcp again to update. It wouldn't be so bad if mojang just provided 'Normal' players with an easier way to downgrade instead of pulling this phukkit everytime. /ps I blame jeb really :p

you keep saying you're mad. hmm .. you sound very angry for something that isn't costing you anything,
Why are you so angry? have a bad day at school or something? It's no reason to take it out on other people now is it. If you think you can do better why aren't you running a site like this and have a userbase this large, chances are you're not, and you don't. Go and have a cookie and relax, its not the end of the world, you wont become an outcast to the human race, set yourself alight or otherwise self-destruct. the update came out today and I for one WAS surprised to see it and I'm new for heavens sake! give them a break, peace out, read a book, watch a movie, build a treehouse, play with your friends, the internet will be here when you get back.
    there there

Get off your high horse. They don't have to reply to anyone that tweets to them, just because that person want them to. It's the owners own damn fault for not telling people to simply "don't update", also the persons own damn fault for upgrading. Should know by now that bukkit updates take time(as a player OR an owner). It's always been like this, I don't get why people still fail to understand that they shouldn't update if they play on bukkit servers -.-

Of course, you could do what a lot of servers do, and make a temp map in vanilla until the update comes.

They also have to get bug fixes in at one point or another, so yeah, it was needed. Not sure why you would even think there would be an RB for .3 anyways, it's outdated now, so why work on an old version..

Nathan C as a developer you should be up top to maintain the progress of your own work. I know it's been a few hours, but since Mojang has teamed up with Bukkit, it seems like this should be just like the vanilla software, up-to-date as soon as an update is available.

I'm sorry, I'm posting WAY more than I usually do on a forum, but ... really ... you ARE being selfish, and yes i do run a server, in fact I ran a dedicated system from my own premises with 4 supporting dedicated routers, hardware firewalls. I ran a unique MMORPG system with an average playerbase of about 150apd (not huge I know, but quite respectful), so do you think I know what its like to run a server, and ... well .. get this . you'll love this, yeah, you're being selfish.

Further the phrase "if you ran a server you would understand" is pretty much translated as:
"I'm out of my depth even on a simple product and I'm going to cry."

Sorry everyone, I'm not normally horrible to people.

Um.. client updates haven't been "forced" since.. when was it, MC beta 1.4 or whatever? Your own fault if you click the shiny "update" button.

And every OS provides the ability to "downgrade", it's called backing up the folder, and copy/pasting :)

You complain about people not having respect, yet all you do is whine whine whine. The bukkit team makes this software free of charge, if you don't like it you can always use Mojangs server files and make all the customizations yourself.

Guess checking twitter of the main Minecraft DEV is such a hard task for our almighty server admin, what do you expect? Them to personally e-mail you about upcoming patches because you own a minecraft server?

Why would those having little complain be fucked? lol stop asslicking. Minecraft either has a server worth running or it doesn't, you think about how many customers would be pissed, if Minecraft had no decent run servers to play on.. it would be somewhat of worthless purchase for most I'd imagine :p What gets me is that Mojang doesn't seem to get much flak for the fact that most there customers aren't pissed off at them for running things like this, when most players aren't able to connect to their favorite servers. Not a problem though, I just inform players as to who to blame for this messed up process. Maybe it will be better run in the future.

I am a server administrator for two free servers, I understand the cost of hosting, as I pay that out of pocket.
As far as donations go, they are just that, donations. If you are asking for donations and getting them, good for you, you should thank those people graciously for paying you to do very little actual work. Stop acting as server admins are some amazing thing. Anyone can run a craftbukkit server. It just takes a special kind of admin to bitch about updates that will surely come out in a day or so. a few hours.

Not sure what you are doing, but the additional cost for me to host my MC servers is only about $9 a month. I don't need to beg for donations.

Guys Seriously, If you are that worried about breaking your server because of an update to the minecraft client, and your players being unable to play after an update do what everyone else who runs big servers does. Tell your players and make sure that they understand that they can deny updating. They do not have to update the second theres a new minecraft release. Its their fault that they updated and are unable to connect to your server. Not Bukkits fault, Not Mojang's fault either. Bukkit is free software that is built, maintained, and updated by a community of devs that love working on these kinds of projects out of the goodness of their hearts. I personally believe that this merger with Mojang will be very beneficial, However it will take a little while to get through the honeymoon phase and get everything working together perfectly and synched up better.

If you want to get bukkit updates fasster then stop pestering the Dev's that are putting out the updates so that they can work on updating their software that the do not HAVE to provide for you. If you let them work in solitude without asking every ten seconds when a new version compatible with minecraft version X will be out then that will shave alot of time off the update duration. Seriously Bukkit's Team does not HAVE to post on twitter, IRC, forums.bukkit.org, The craftbukkit progress googledoc,... how they are making out with the code transition to the new version... BUT THEY DO.

Let bukkits Dev's relax and work at their own pace, the more you ask them when the next RB will be out the more you stress them out, And i know for a fact that coding while stressed out is not fun and results in poor buggy code. Let Bukkit work at their own pace and check back at this page often for progress. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AjHYJuqMjzkndHJfX3BwdkdVdnJLTERyLWNGMy1fLVE&toomany=true
